Wanted to make that paper sentry but tiny parts scare you? You're in luck.......

So OK I'm not great at advanced papercraft, let's get that out of the way. I tried to make that awesome paper sentry (http://highwaychile.net/item/29) but after two tries and each failing at the barrel/chamber gluing.......I got a little frustrated to say the least :(

The fact of the matter is, I WANT that paper sentry. So badly I took the easy way out, which happens to actually make the sentry better in my opinion. I enlarged all the cutout schematics to about 3-4x the size, making even the super-small cuts pretty damn easy (provided you use an exacto-knife), and the tiny folding parts are now a breeze even with thick glossy photo paper; all without losing much quality at all.

I converted the PDFs into PNGs in doing so, meaning these have different print instructions. They are at a print resolution of 72x72 dpi (@ 700x940 each), and I had to print them with Firefox. I'm sure a person versed in photoshop or irfanview might be able to clue everyone in on how to print them correctly with those and others, but thus far whenever I tried to print with those, it came out too large for the page for some reason, even though they were at 100% size when printed in Firefox as well (very high chance I missed something obvious). As far as the actual enlargement process.........long story. As I said I'm not versed with image software, and every PDF to PNG/JPEG converter I could find spat out terrible quality conversion. It involved a vile mixture of Adobe Reader, Print Screen, MS Paint and Irfanview and took me probably far longer than it should have -_-

Also, because of the enlarging, I really don't recommend making it with normal computer paper as it's very thin and would probably not hold up at this size. I used HP advanced glossy photo paper, which turned out very nice quality even with my Lexmark bargain bin printer (though I'm not finished making the sentry yet). For anyone interested, here they are. I kept the numbers the same (the label for #6 got cut off but I'm sure you can find it through elimination) so you can still use the (google translated) instructions from the original site. They're not in the best order because I was trying to conserve the photo paper, so if you have trouble matching the numbers to the items then compare it to the originals from that site.

I thank Miso for doing the hard part for us. I didn't re-brand this so if you feel the need to distribute, please mention the original composer and I don't care about taking credit for the enlargement, claim it as your own if you will, I'm just happy to share.

Oh and if you're Miso and you're pissed off that I didn't put your name on this thanks to my forgetfulness, please let me know and I'd be happy to edit and re-up them if needed.

tldr: hey I enlarged those paper sentry cutout schematics (http://highwaychile.net/item/29) in case anyone else has had trouble with the tiny parts of the original, and it also happens to make a larger sentry, fancy that!

Let's get some finished prints next to some other objects to compare size

Sadly I don't have a digital camera with which to take them, but you can print one of them in low quality mode to conserve ink and then compare it to a low quality printed page of the original. As I said, it comes about between 3 and 4x the size.

Here's page one of the original: http://highwaychile.net/media/pdf/se_page1.pdf

Taking into consideration that, like this PDF, each of my originals are printed on normal size printer paper. The "chamer" (the big red part with two black lines that forms the cylindrical bullet chamber) on mine had to be rotated so it's vertical, and takes up almost half the page, whereas the original takes up only a small part of a page.

Also, it's a good idea to use 110 pound card stock paper when making these things as anything else can be cumbersome to manage.
