Best way to record video for youtube/wegame vids?

I'm going to guess it's:

1. Record a gameplay demo using TF2 console demo commands
2. Replay demo in TF2
3. Record demo with external software

Is that right?

1. Record a gameplay demo using TF2 console demo commands

3. Type "host_framerate 30", then "startmovie 'name' avi"
4. Select a compression software and let it run until it's chovered everything you want
5. Type "Endmovie", then "host_framerate 0"

Some would argue that the only way is with source recorder... Unless you plan on doing any fancy Demo smoothing with it, I'd just use the process you outlined...If you plan on demo smoothing to make the fancy camera angles and dramatic slowdown etc, then you should probably learn the source recorder.

"OMG" I read that page but the compression ratio for the built-in video output sounds horrible.

I am basically going to use this for Spy tutorials, so I don't need 3rd person or anything.

What? You choose your codec, so the compression depends on entirely what you use. I usually use Lagarith Lossless codec and edit it in something else later, but if you're not editing, you can use Xvid or something right off the bat from the demo.
