Is there a way to join a server with friends?

#1Bunbury42Posted 7/2/2011 9:30:46 PM
I can't find an obvious way to have me and friends all join servers together. I mean, I can find a server, join it, tell them the name and we all join it. But that's clunky. Is there any way to group up beforehand and then all join a server together, such as the way many console shooters handle things?

How about they just join your current game through Steam.

In what way? If I pull up the server browser and go to the "friends" tab, it says that none of my friends are playing a game, when indeed they are.

Do you mean that or something else?

And you lie

Really? Did I do something to so horribly offend you? Why would I lie about something as ridiculous as this? When I go to that tab, it tells me none of my friends are in a game. If I were lying about that and I could join, why would I waste my tame making this topic?

And thank you for that suggestion. I shall try that next time I play

If they say they're in game, then THEY lie.
Wait, does it say they're in Team Fortress 2?

As in if I have loaded up TF2. And I am in the server browser looking for a server. There are tabs like "Servers", "Favorites", "History", "Friends", "Blacklist", etc. My friend is in a game. I go to the "Friends" tab with the intent of joining them. He is already my friend on Steam. I go to that tab and it says none of my friends are in a game, when he is in a game.

No, I mean, is he in the game TF2, not a match, just the game. If it says he does, and there's no option to join him, he's not in a match. If he says he's in a match, and you still can't join him, that's because he's in a server he made himself in the make your own server button or what ever it's called. You can't join friends who are in servers they made themselves, AKA listen servers.

It'd be kinda nice if the game had a sort of "group" system where people could join together and get on the same team. It's annoying to be organizing a match and have a few people lagging behind because the server filled, then the finally get in, then the last person can't join your team because it's full so they have to join the other and wait until your team gains an open spot. It'd just be nice to be able to join as one solid mass, have all of us join a server with enough open spots on a single team for all of us. Then again what do I know, I'm terrible at this game.
