How do I force Steam to update?

#1Mariofan4everPosted 7/11/2013 11:50:59 AM
I am unable to successfully launch steam.exe at the moment. From what I have found, the reason is my antivirus was blocking a key componet to an update I got today. Unfortunately, I can't find a single bit of useful information on how to force steam to update again, so I'm currenly unable to do anything to try and fix the issue.

if anyone is interested in the exact error:
Fatal Error: Could not load module 'bin/vgui2_s.dll'

i tend to pillage and plunder the high seas (if you catch my drift) so i've only had tf2 installed on steam. I would guess as long as it's not plugged in you'd be ok but you may wanna wait for someone to give you a more definitive answer.

So, I should backup/move my entire steam library, right?

To force Steam to update, delete ClientRegistry.blob in the Steam folder

Should force an update. Otherwise, you might have to try deleting like others said.

And yes, it's safe to delete, it will be replaced by another one when you open Steam. Shiuld be obvious, but don't delete it unless Steam is completely closed.
