Lady Luck vs Diamond Dust

#1AxelRymanPosted 4/17/2013 6:58:27 PM
For Magic, which would be better? Lady Luck gives +2 MP and a Magic Boost, but Diamond Dust gives +3 MP with no Magic Boost. Is the Magic Boost from Lady Luck worth using over Diamond Dust's extra boost to MP?

Hmm... tough call. I would guess Lady Luck would be better for actually dealing damage (so the elemental spells, Gravity, and Aerora/ga's wind damage), while Diamond Dust is better for limit usage and magic that has formula based on your number of MP (Cure, Stop, Aero's shielding). So really, it all depends on the situation:

If you're going for annihilating the opposition with Magic, choose Lady Luck.

If you're going after the special Heartless or are turning Sora into a Time Lord/Medic, choose Diamond Dust.

However, I dunno how Magic Boost affects the formula. I know the number of MP is usually the biggest factor for spells, though.

"Magic Boost" isn't actually a thing. It just means that the keyblade has MP. Like "String of Critical Hits" means Critical Range*2.

All magic related stuff uses your Max MP for its calculations.

See that's what I find odd. Diamond Dust and Ultima Weapon are listed to not have Magic Boost while other MP giving Keyblades do. Same with some accessories like the EXP Earring, EXP Ring, and Royal Crown. Not only that, but the Atlas Armlet is listed as having +2 Magic Boosts compared to other accessories which only have one.

Then again, I'm comparing this based off the Wiki and a pdf file I have for KH1FM.

The KH wiki at wikia.com is one of the worst resources available. I'd trust starrk's PDF, but starrk doesn't read Japanese and used language translations.

How it's worded also needs to fit within set character limits. There's not enough space for everything in cases like Ultima Weapon. The designers had changed by the time KH-FM came out and the tone changed, too.

starrk just abbreviates the description blurbs in his PDF. When I mentioned a few changes he could make to that file when he updated it, I was going to add weapon stats, but decided against it. Most people get all they need from the blurbs, and I doubt he wanted every line looking like:

Ultima Weapon [Japanese] (Atk 14, Mag 2, CritRange *2, CritBoost +2, Rebound 90)

You mean like this?

So far I'm just using the Wiki for Synthesis as well as Drop Rates for items.

Guess I'll just use whatever gives the most MP then if that's the case. Thanks for the help.

Hah! I only checked the updated pdf for the changes I mentioned to him. I think the only equipment stuff I pointed out were accessories, the rest were ability related. I personally still use a print out of the old PDF with my pen-edits, so I missed that he changed the weapon section. He removed where to obtain the keys to keep it from being all bloated. Ultima Weapon used to be "(Atk 14, Mag 2, All powers)" for instance.

So, to answer your question now that I have everything sorted out, starrk's Weapon section is updated, his accessory section uses his old method. Crabclaw, Fairy Harp, Lionheart, Lady Luck and Oathkeeper used to have "Magic power+" in their descriptions because the blurbs did, the accessories still do. Spellbinder not having it and Atlas Armlet's double plus sign are probably oversights. Things like Cosmic Arts not having it are because starrk doesn't actually read Japanese as far as I know. It's also why the EXP Necklace was listed as MP+2 originally. Because -everyone- has it listed at MP+2 (the wiki still does) for some reason (similar sources?).

But all the blurbs do is try to express a mechanic more simply. Max MP is the only was to alter Magic and Summons in KH1. KH doesn't do much in explaining the maths behind things, and tries to keep it simple. Which can lead to overthinking.

Overthinking is what I've been doing then. In that case, Diamond Dust and +2 MP Accesories would be best. Thanks against Glave.

Ah, thanks for catching that. My bad. :j Dunno why I was thinking the actual descriptions were translated, too.

AxelRyman, for synthesis help, ElectroSpecter's walkthrough, WolfKnight's Item Synthesis FAQ, filtered through Thorf's FM Changes FAQ of course, all have good info. Probably where that unattributed wiki got its info, I'd almost wager.
