The best way to cheat in this game(IMHO) is to use KSE(SaveGame Editor), here is the official direct link:

http://www.starwarsknights.com/mtools/

Step 1: If you have a save game already go to step 2.

Step 1.1: Start a game, save-it right away & exit the game. go to step 2.

Step 2: Go in your save game editor, chose a save, change & add everything that you want.

Step 3: Also, when using KSE, install these if you are getting stuck in the middle of a cutscene sequence. You may be stuck in the Ebon Hawk's hull with a 'CutStart' object. This normally when your player no longer possesses one of the 3 original character classes (example: pure jedi) or your player is no longer male or female: KotOR 1 Fixed Cutscene Files for KSE:

Step 4: If you have specific question after trying it, come back here & i'll anwser-it all. If your problem is technical, i'll refer you to the guys who made KSE, i'll suggest that you try the chat first, if no one is there at the time you try, then ask help in the official thread discussion, here are the links just for that. Chat : http://www.starwarsknights.com/chat.php
Official Thread Discussion : http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=123671.

Here are Specific OverViews of KSE:

Or, you can enable the ingame cheats...

Ok then, here is my guide on how to enable the cheats. When editing or entering codes, the source's spelling & ponctuation(syntax) is everything. So, in practicle it means that you'll have to watch the capitalized letters/numbers, joined words/numbers, spacing inbetween words/numbers.

Before you can use the ingame cheat codes, you must first enable this fonction. Open the file "swkotor.ini" with notepad or something similar (Sometimes you can't see the .ini extention of the swkotor.ini file, so swkotor.ini file is a notepad & on-it a gearing logo, see picture below). The swkotor.ini file is in the SWkotor Directory & the path by default is:

Before you can use the ingame cheat codes, you must first enable this fonction. Open the file "swkotor.ini" with notepad or something similar (Sometimes you can't see the .ini extention of the swkotor.ini file, so swkotor.ini file is a notepad & on-it a gearing logo, see picture below). The swkotor.ini file is in the SWkotor Directory & the path by default is:

(For the CD Version)C:\Program Files\LucasArts\SWKotOR

(For The Steam version)C:\Program Files [or Program Files (X86)]\Steam\steamapps\common\swkotor

Go to the [Game Options] section, & add the line EnableCheats=1 at the end of this section, sometime its under Disable Movies=0 (see picture below). Then save the file and close it.

Cheats are now enabled. Now you'll need to open the console while ingame. So, every game that you starts, new or with a previously saved one, press simultaneously Left CTRL & Left SHIFT release it & quickly hit the Tilde key. now depending of your keyboard, the logo/character on the Tilde key will be different, here are all the Tilde key's appearrances: for the North American keyboards: ~ , ' or ` . For European keyboards its this one: . No matter what is the Tilde key's apearance (or is name), it is always located on the left of 1 on your keyboard. During this game just hit the tilde key. Also, some will just need to hit the tilde key.

It has been reported (Europe) that holding simultaneously the right Alt & 7 then release them & hit again the 7 will do the trick... Or, Alt+9+6. Then just type one of the codes(syntax). Also when editing your .ini file under EnableCheat=1 add this line EnableConsole=1, then hold simultaneously the right Alt & 7 then release them & hit again the 7 & pause the game & enter the wanted cheats.

When you'll press your Tilde Key this character > will appear in the top-left corner of your screen, this means that the console is open and now enter the wanted cheat code(s).

TIPS 1:
Don't forget about the source's spelling & ponctuation(syntax), watch the capitalized letters/numbers, joined words/numbers, spacing inbetween words/numbers. Here's 2 exemples, lets use the "giveitem" code first:

giveitemSPACEe_imp1_01

So you should read:

giveitem e_imp1_01

2nd, an exemple with numbers in a code :

setstrengthSPACE9999

You should read:

setstrength 9999

TIPS 2:
Here's a picture of the SWKotOR ini file(don't forget, sometimes you don't see the " .ini " (thats the extention) beside swkotor):
http://furiokotor.bravehost.com/myPictures/SWkotor---ini-file.gif

And Where to Write the EnableCheats=1 in this ini file.

Here's the step-by-step Vista instructions :

For The CD Version :

1. Click on Windows logo in lower left corner.
2. Click on "Computer".
3. Double Click on "C:".
4. Double Click on "Program Files (x86)"
5. Double Click on "LucasArts"
6. Double Click on "SWKotOR"

For The Steam Version :

3. Double Click on "C:".
4. Double Click on "Program Files (x86)"
5. Double Click on "Steam"
6. Double Click on "steamapps"
7. Double Click on "common"
8. Double Click on "SWKotOR"

Then continue here :

7. DON'T open the swkotor ini file here.
8. Now, directly beneath the Menu bar, but in the strip above the files and folder names, you'll see a few different options. Mine looks like this:

File Edit View Tools Help <----------- Not this bar
Organize Views Burn Compatibility Files <----------- This bar

9. Click on "Compatibility Files"
That option then disappears, and the files and folders in the viewing window change. For example, before clicking on Compatibility Files I have 28 items. After clicking I only have 5 items.

10. Now you'll see the swkotor ini file. It's up to you, but you may want to back an untouched copy to a separate location than your LucasArts folder. Double click the ini file.

11. Scroll clear down to the bottom of the list titled "[Game Options]" and paste in the following (without quotes)... "EnableCheats=1"

12. Save, exit, and play.

13. Push the ~ button, type in your cheat, and push enter. As has already been mentioned, you won't see the text box that it goes in. Just push ~ and type. For example, just type in "revealmap" (without quotes) and push enter. Open your map and see if all the dark areas just got filled in. If so, it worked.

Thanks to Caddy for this Vista step-by-step instructions.
