I unfortunately don't have a CRT anymore, and I really don't even have a proper TV at all these days.
I'm currently running my NES into a capture card, and displaying it on a 22" LCD through a program, and I'm just having a lot more trouble dodging Tyson's uppercuts than I did as a kid.
Could this be a problem with monitor lag, or has my finger speed just dulled with age?

No, there is input lag when playing older console games on LCD/HD televisions. I first encountered this when playing at a friends place, and was baffled at how I could not even beat Tyson, when normally I would crush him at home, often times in the 1st round. I eventually became good enough to beat Tyson on LCD (not in round 1), but it is really difficult to dodge those uppercuts because of the lag.
