As the name suggests, you may not refill F.L.U..D.D at all. Because I realized it would be impossible to do levels like Corona Mountain where you have to grab the Rocket Launcher in order to proceed, I'm making a few exceptions. (For Mario and F.L.U.D.D) * You may not refill F.L.U.D.D in any Body of Water or Sprinklers * You may not collect Mushrooms because they also restore Water * You may only Switch Nozzles if you're required too. (Ex. Corona Mountain) (For Yoshi) * No eating Fruits There are cut-scenes in the game that cause you to automatically refilled. Not much you can do about that. That's one exception. Good luck! |
This sounds interesting. What you could do about how FLUDD is automatically refilled after cutscenes and getting new nozzles is just spray enough water to bring the water level back down to what it was before it was refilled. There's not much you can do about that since that's the way the game's programmed. I could add a rule so that you can only pick up other Nozzles if you're required too. Or maybe in the Delfino Plaza, you can only switch nozzles if you have a full tank of water. Additional Rule: -------------------------- * If you absorb water from any non-cutscene, then you must exit the area. |
All I can say for the bosses is that try to get to them with the least amount of water possible. As for some Yoshi, considering your water is automatically refilled after you get off of it. I don't know what you could do for that. There is a glitch in the game (like a lot of glitches) to get to the Island with Yoshi without using the Boat thankfully. So far as my testing goes, the Manta Ray from Serena Beach seems to give a lot of trouble. |
Yeah, that was immediately what I thought of. I think it would be possible to defeat the Manta Storm with one tank of water, but it would be a long, hard fight because you'd have to make very careful, precise use of your water. Nothing else comes to mind as really difficult, but this is an interesting idea that would encourage alternate strategies for some Shines. Definitely gonna give this a go at some point. I'm blue. |
In some episodes, like Noki Bay's underwater eps and boss battle eps(minus Manta Storm), nothing really changes with this rule. Actually, I'd dare and say that in most episodes, nothing changes unless you're a maniac who sprays everything or are prone to making errors during play. This is because in most of the missions, the prime objective doesn't require you to use FLUDD a lot. Quite a few are actually possible FLUDD-less. With a conservative mindset, the actual difficulty doesn't rise much, it just feels a little tedious since you're not going to use your nozzles to augment Mario's movements. However, with others, like the Manta Storm ep mentioned already, as well as missions that actually force you to use a ton of water(Cleaning Sirena Beach, the Chain Chomplets/Big Chain Chomp of Pianta Village, etc) the difficulty would rise to pure hell. Some, like that extra Shine in the Delfino Police Dept. that requires you to use the Turbo Nozzle and refill the tank midway, would be downright impossible in the first place. I don't worship any god but if I did it would be the Roman Gods. -k darkfire D_R - Shadow Sage |
I don't feel that this challenge is that hard (besides certain level) It's mostly an inconvenience for the most part. If I'm not mistaken, there are water barrels in Serena Beach (unless they appear in later episodes, which I'm unsure of at the moment.) There's always spin jumping in the body of water which technically isn't using FLUDD since your not really spraying water. I could see clean-up missions being somewhat annoying. And then a lot of the Noki Bay ones are easy since it's impossible to lose water. As for the secret shine in Delfino with the Turbo Nozzles, I'd like to say it's possible to avoid those sprinklers. If switching other nozzles wasn't a restriction, then I'd go ahead and say try the Rocket Nozzle or even the Hover. That one is possible with all three normally. I just thought of something with the turbo nozzle considering you're automatically refilled once you go in water. I think there are one or two blue coins that do that and require you to break the gates. I can (hopefully) say that nearly all the Shines are possible, even the ones that require you to squirt a lot. Then again, I haven't actually started a new file for this type of run yet, rather just testing out some of the levels on a completed file. |
As of recent, I can confirm that the Manta Ray shine is possible without refilling as I managed to beat it today. I'm stuck on the secret shine with the Turbo Nozzle. The first row of sprinklers is easy to dodge by panning to the left. But the second row seems possible, but very difficult. I've tried climbing on the edges and it still auto refills you. Also so far one blue coin is impossible to get as it is in water and requires the turbo nozzles. At this point, only 118 shines are possible without refilling. I still haven't tested out every mission, but I did try out some of the hard missions, including the Corona Mountain. |
