Master Riding worth it?

#1DemosKonradPosted 12/28/2010 2:13:59 PM
5,000g (4,000g discounted) just doesn't seem worth a 7.89% increase in speed. I know for a lot of you 5,000g is easy sauce but it's not exactly pennies to me. Is the increase at all noticeable, or is the 280% speed a smarter option?

Depends. I got it in anticipation of flying around leveling Archaeology/farming Elementium, and lo and behold, it made me go a bit faster.

If you plan to be doing gathering professions like an hour a day, it's probably worth it. Otherwise, I know I'm not spending the extra money.

I'm a skinner/LW so the speed going from mob to mob helps. While it's not a huge difference, it adds up.

When you factor in Mount Up, which you either have or should have soon, the difference becomes even greater.

310% becomes 351%
280% becomes 318%

For example, a 310% mount has a 410% movement speed.
410 * 1.1 = 451 - 100 = 351% Faster Movement Speed

So the difference between Master Riding and Normal would actually be 33% riding speed.

With how much inflation has struck in Cataclysm, 4k gold really isn't that much anymore.

It's not entirely expensive, now, but if it is to you then don't bother. It's really not worth it. I've got it it on my main and won't be considering it on my alts. I can hardly tell the difference.

Actually time a flight before and after you get it, and you'll notice a substantial difference. If you gather, or plan on travelling anywhere with your mount, it's damn worth it.

Look at it from a relative standpoint.

Artisan = +280% speed, Master = +310% speed. It's a +30% riding speed increase.

However, if you HAVE 280%...
+10% OF 280, so +28%...
...that's 308%.

When it comes to the actual difference in feel, it's only ~10% faster than your current mount.

Actually time a flight before and after you get it, and you'll notice a substantial difference. If you gather, or plan on travelling anywhere with your mount, it's damn worth it.

--By all means time a flight. If it takes you ~5 minutes (300 seconds) to get somewhere, it'll take you ~4 and a half minutes (270) seconds with this upgrade. And 5 minutes is a fairly long flight. Is 30 seconds out of 5 minutes worth 4k?

~~~
When you factor in Mount Up, which you either have or should have soon, the difference becomes even greater.
310% becomes 351%
280% becomes 318%
--Because things still scale.
318 + 10% (32) = 350, which is almost the exact same as 351.
Even with Mount Up, you're still only going to FEEL 10% faster than your current mount. I got my Master Riding from What A Long Strange Trip It's Been, and I feel almost no difference between the 310% and my alts with 280%.
Ask yourself if that is worth 4k to you. It MAY be for you, but for most it's just a waste of gold that could be spent or saved for better gear or more fun things.
