I want to be as effective as possible (and not get as discouraged), yet the 449g asking price for each of the 8 pieces seems a little high for what you're getting. Go figure that seemingly the only guy on the entire server that has Contender's Wyrmhide recipes purchased is also asking double per item over anybody else's like-auctions. Blah. Would you do it? I only have 9,800g and I have no concept of how expensive gemming and enchanting gear will be once I have all Dreadful gear.

(This is all based on my server's AH)

Gems are waaaaay cheap, like, you can find a lot of the blue cuts for ~20-50g
Enchants are typically less than 100g as well.

If you have a miner you could always just farm the ore, it's really easy to get a hold of, and then /2 for a blacksmith.

If it's THAT expensive, I wouldn't bother buying it. It's a nice help at the start but I wouldn't waste my gold.

It costs very little to craft. Buy the mats, find a crafter, and tip.

The mats are 132 exotic leather, which costs next to nothing. The problem is that literally no leatherworkers on my server have the recipes for Contender's Wyrmhide except for the one guy.

Plenty of people have the recipes I'm sure, like me they just don't bother to put them on the AH, shout out in trade and you may find someone willing to give you a deal.
Leather is dirt cheap and abundant, now the scale stuff on the other hand can be quite high with good reason.

Yes. PvP Power has ended the problem of PvE gear in PvP once and for all--but it also has made it even harder for PvErs trying to start PvPing because not only do you die instantly, but you can't even hurt things anymore either.

I'm sorry to hear that 250-400g a piece is to much for you to afford.

Contender's sets extend your life span by about 1.5 seconds, up from 0.

BMac89 = reading comprehension fail. TC is asking if it's worth spending 3,600g on Contender's gear that will no doubt be replaced as soon as Dreadful is obtained. To answer your question, probably not unless you buy all the mats and just find someone that can make every piece and tip them well.
