Why Are Most MMOs Called WoW Clones and Not EQ Clone or DAOC Clone...Etc...

Because to call WoW an Everquest clone is an insult to Everquest...

Yeah man, I'll bet NOBODY wants to be compared to one of the most profitable games of all time, especially from the same genre
"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""

Right, because profitability is the only frickin measure of success amirite??? Your statement is so full of fail. Wow's community is the worst for any MMO while Everquest had and still has a great one. I consider that much more important. Everquest has also made it's fair share. 19 expansions and still going... EQ > WoW...

So in other words, because its less than what you're used to, it was removed completely?

Gasoline here dropped twenty cents per gallon in a month. Even though it's still 3.20, it's free because the price was removed completely right??

Are you honestly trying to argue that any of the grinds found in WoW is really that long compared to most(specifically older MMOs)?

Can you even read? I Specifically said "there's a difference in not having a grind at all and having a grid far shorter than other MMOs".

Yeah! What an idiot for thinking that being the most successful MMO ever is a good indicator of success!

19 expansions isn't exactly a thing that should be bragged about.

It's because their UI and the way they handle... Well, everything. Is basically an exact copy of WoW.

I can think of 2 examples right off the bat.
Lord Of The Rings Online
Runes of Magic

Their UIs are practically a carbon copy of WoW's, same with the way they handle questing and everything.

The same reason why people called every FPS "Halo clones" for a while despite FPS's existing for years before Halo.

It's a fair comparison when they try to copy Halo. Halo was the first game to popularize regenerating health/shields, and the 2 weapon swap system. Very few, if any, tried those systems before and they didn't really catch on until Halo popularized it.

Was it the first? No. It wasn't.
The real issue is that they POPULARIZED it.

Very good post. SWTOR is a good example of a WoW clone in terms of UI and feel and stuff... It has nothing to do with who did it originally. More to do with one game copying another in a pretty extreme and obvious way. For example, it would be unfair to call GW2 a WoW clone, given some pretty clear differences in the game, but SWTOR is definitely a WoW clone.

GW2 is nothing more than a failed attempt at dethroning WoW by targeting the wrong demographic

It's kind of the textbook definition when talking about an entertainment product. If I made a game and it sold seven copies, I wouldn't call that a success even if all seven folks loved it.

And I don't think there's a huge difference in the quality of different online communities. There's a lot more people playing WoW than ever played EQ, so you have a higher number of bad apples, but not necessarily a higher percentage.

Did I say profitability wasn't a "good" indicator of success... No... I said in my mind it is not the ONLY indicator of success which had been implied in earlier statements... Learn to read. I don't know why I am even here on a message board for a game I can no longer stomach though... Not sure what I was expecting to achieve.
