5.2 LFR stacking buff for wiping - Horrible idea or great idea?

#1TloyaPosted 1/30/2013 11:40:26 PM]

Summary: In 5.2 LFR, a group wiping on a boss will cause the group to gain a 5% buff to HP, damage and healing which stacks up to 10 times which lasts until the boss is defeated.

-A group struggling with a given boss can now eventually brute force it with the buff rather than falling apart
-Because of this safety net, Blizzard can make LFR mechanics a little more complex than they are currently
-People stuck in unsuccessful LFR groups will hopefully have to deal with less frustration and fewer repair bills

-AFKing your way through a LFR is now easier than ever, after a couple wipes
-Inexperienced players who have trouble figuring out fight mechanics may never figure them out after winning with the buff
-Groups may feel incentivized to wipe a few times to get the buff stacked before going for an easy kill

My thoughts: For people who make sure to do their LFRs on Tuesday and Wednesday, the only time they'll see the buff is during the first week a given LFR is out when people are still wiping on it. After that point it'll go back to being the usual LFR faceroll and the buff's existence won't matter. However, for those who for whatever reason have to do LFR during the weekend or god forbid on Monday with all the turnonubs and people who just bought enough gear to queue for LFR, the buff will hopefully cut down on the number of wipes for downing the more difficult (relative to other LFR bosses) encounters.

The major sticking point I think is just making sure that there's no way to cheese the game into giving you the debuff for anything less than a wipe after a concerted attempt at the boss--else groups will find ways to intentionally wipe themselves in the shortest time possible so they can stack the buff.

rich guilds can queue lfr and purposely wipe and just get the max buff and lol all the way.

I never knew it to be a problem already, i think ive wiped 3 times ever anything in LFR.
If you put in a lot of work, you're going to have an advantage over those that don't.

I like it somewhat because of this a bit, but this still feels like yet another step away from immersion and the "magic" that WoW had.

-Groups may feel incentivized to wipe a few times to get the buff stacked before going for an easy kill

No group will purposely wipe to get the buff. If there's a trick, like for example if pulling and resetting the boss stacks it, then that might happen. But people won't coordinate a wipe on purpose just for 5% more damage.

Literally saying LFR isn't wiping enough.

I do not see the downsides of this, really. However -and I know this is only a personal experience- I honestly haven't witnessed any alarming amounts of wipes in LFR to justify implementing this buff. I mean what's the reason Blizzard even thought about this, I have no clue.

But yeah, why not? It's LFR; it is supposed to be easy.

If you run weekend LFRs you'll find yourself wiping a lot more than you'd like. I hear if you run them early they aren't bad but I typically don't have time to, so I'm used to wiping often.

This change is great of course.

It's still entirely possible for groups to wipe on Garalon simply because people don't understand the mechanics of the fight. It's also going to allow the 2-3 people who normally carry the weekend/monday LFR's to not hate themselves for having to try that much harder so that the group doesn't wipe.

It will also allow healers to heal through stupid just a tad bit more. Hopefully this means that the new raid will be pretty difficult in LFR.
