Consider downloading S.A.L.'s archaeology helper. I find that it comes in handy when excavating artifacts.

Archaeology helper is a time saver for huge dig sites.

What you are experiencing, TC, is that the scope points in a general cone. Green starts at 10 yards radius from you, and goes to 40. Yellow goes from 40- 80 yard radius. Red is 80 onward. Sometimes, your red range could point where the actual fragments are near the boarder of the red area. Then, when you fly far enough to check again, it's at a 90 from your position.

What AH does is it lets you hit a button for each color, creating a HUD overlay that shows a cone based on the direction your character faces. Fields can overlap, so sometimes it helps to try doing two red distance surveys, because overlap of the two fields greatly narrows down the search area.

I just keep the map open the whole time. If I get a red survey, I eliminate the intersection of the dig region on the map with the half plane defined by everything "behind" the line perpendicular to the survey tool through the survey point, then proceed to survey in the centroid of the remaining region. I only get two reds on extremely large regions. Here's an illustration of what that means:

Wait no try this one:

never had this problem, u must be going in the wrong direction its says go right just a little bit, and you probably hop on mount and fly to the other side of dig site.

Whenever i settle down to actually do surveying and excavating for archaelogy i prepare some good music, a big tall beer or drink, put on the headphones and zone out. Cause Archaelogy is tedious and boring!

Its at least really fast now(at least comparatively). You could probably grind out to at least 525 in a few hours if you had a lot of the keystones.

If you were a real archeologist s*** would literally be at least half of what you dig up.

this is kind of why i wish world of warcraft had the final fantasy 11 map, bloody brilliant in my opinion, it allows you to mark temporarily(or permanently) a place on the map where you found a rare spawn or dungeon
