Blowing the dust off my account.

I've ogt an old old account I'm currently downloading a free to play patch for. I'm not quite sure how to get back into it though, I've a level 46 Gravity/Rad Controller I'm 3 tokens away from unlocking and a level 29 Ice/Dark Corrupter who is flat broke and doesn't have any SOs or DOs.

I really enjoyed the Corrupter back in the day but since Going Rogue was released I fear she's become redundant, with Defenders getting 25% better primary abilities at the cost of 2% less damage. Still 2 years is LONG time in MMOs and this may have been redressed.

Should I turn XP off and try and grind enough infamy to rekit out my character (which might actually be impossible anyway without any gear at all) or bite the bullet and roll up a new Defender? I remember the game pre-stamina and PRe Sos being pretty damn dull but this might have improved in the last couple years. I could pay the money and unlock my Gravity Controller but it breaks my heart to play him after they nerfed him to less than a fifth of his peak ability.

They're not. Corrupters still put out a little more damage, while Defenders heal/buff/debuff a little better. Defenders can also be a little tougher to kill as well compared to an identical build on a Corrupter, at least with a couple of my Kins anyways. *shrug*

As for the Inf, it won't take long to at least slot the Ice/Dark with SO's. If you want to turn off XP while earning it though, by all means. It'll be faster at least, but XP is yummy, heh. Alternatively, someone might just decide to part with some of their wealth out of the goodness of their hearts and get you started at least. I'd do so, but I can't log in at the moment. Lame hotel wi-fi, lol.

Either way, welcome back!

There is no "pre-Stamina" game anymore, as the entire Fitness pool is inherent pretty much from the get-go (level 2, IIRC, but do two minutes in the tutorial, and you're good on that front), and while pre-SOs is still a little rough in a couple spots, the bonuses you can get from doing the new low level sewer trial tend to make up for that; you can actually be pretty tough pretty early on.

As for the Defender/Corruptor issue, normally, damage has a much bigger difference (Defenders only get a damage bonus when solo or on very small teams; if you have more than 3 people, yourself included, there's no bonus), however, Ice is a bit of an exception, as Ice Storm and Blizzard do equivalent amounts to even the Blaster version (although Defenders can't Scourge). Overall, in this case, the Defender's gonna do a bit better, but neither is bad. Since you don't have the same low-level weaknesses you used to, I might consider it. If you need cash for SOs and such, my global ID in the game is @Lazarillo, and if I'm on, I'll gladly send you a coupla million.

Thanks for the input, looking online the damage difference still seems to be fairly negligible, but I can't find any data on the difference between buffs so I'm assuming this has closed up since I last played. Do you reckon the difference between the two (coupled with no access to IOs) is going to make it harder to get into and complete trials?

It's great news they made Fitness available earlier as that should definitely make alts less of a chore. I imagine you still need a few levels behind you before you've got a basic set of essential abilities (travel power, stamina, pre-requisites to those and enough powers that you aren't ever wholly on cooldown), but hopefully progression to that level is faster these days. Rather than reroll from scratch I might make a Kin/Fire Defender or an Illusion/Something new Controller (yeah I'm hooked on Defender powers...)

I managed to sell a few ingredients and grab a few core SOs off the Black market for a few thousand so things aren't as desperate as I'd feared, with Blackest Night, Ice Blast and Twilight Grasp I can probably survive long enough to get the rest up. Not that a million or so wouldn't help enormously but I can at least contribute and survive I reckon. One thing I noticed is Tar Patch/Ice Storm is nothing like as effective as I remember it, does anyone remember if this got a huge nerf or am I just being forgetful?

Well yes, it still takes a few levels to get the essentials, but Fitness as a whole is granted inherently after level 2, only requiring slotting, so it doesn't use any of your power choices at all anymore.

Travel powers now unlock at level 4 for all AT's, so you can get that pretty quick as well. No need for the old Vet Reward to get them at level 6 or whatever it was. Plus they've added another tier to the Travel Power Pools, giving you a few new choices to consider. Personally I love Burnout, especially on my signature Hamster toon (most of my Kins have hamster names), which is the new power available in the Speed pool and instantly recharges all your Primary and Secondary powers. Great on a Kin. Aggro a large group, nuke, steal End, Burnout, nuke again, and if you're really desperate to go boom once more, Self Destruct is still good for a giggle sometimes. :D

All-in-all, leveling up a new alt in a timely fashion is much less of a chore now than it used to be. Less concern about if you're Endurance bar will outlast the next group of Snakes, and you can start picking up other powers sooner than you might have otherwise.

I don't know anything about Tar Patch or Ice Storm though, sorry. I've been semi-away from the game for a few months now, so I may very well have missed something in that time, besides the things that affected my mains, most of which are Kinetics of some form or another. XD

And by the way, feel free to add @pyber if you want, and like the Captain, if you see me on feel free to shout and if you need it I'll see about donating to the cause. I reinstalled the other day again, intending to at least do some marketeering in my off-time, so I'll be on here and there at least until the 20th.

Wow, that's way more lenient than I was expecting, I thought they'd just moved that 8 level block with no pool powers earlier on, so you'd go 2 Hasten, 4 Superspeed, 6 Hurdle , 8 Fitness but you can just go straight on to your main powers. That's a serious improvement right there, you can get a respectable mix of powers really quickly.

Thanks for the offer of help, both of you. I've sent a request, my own handle being Gravitro (my main and sadly currently inaccessible character)
