Just in case anyone still wants to fool with the character creator...

...here's a little heads up. Codewalker, over on the Titan Network forums, has cobbled together a little executable that you simply drop into your existing CoH or CoH Beta folder (assuming you still have it installed) and run. And voila, you have full access to the regular in-game character creator, along with almost every part released up to i23, and even the unreleased i24 if you're using the .exe with the Beta installation of the game.

A reminder, you will need the game installed in order to use this, as its not a standalone tool. Its just a workaround that Codewalker has whipped up to allow access to the character creator in the game while bypassing the login screen. If you want to make use of the Beta stuff, you will need a copy of the Beta client installed. Now, this will work for i24 and i23, but I also assume that if you haven't updated that far that it still should work. You just won't have all the newest parts added since your last Issue update.

And on a side note, if you want to take those characters you can now create and save costumes for (or your old costume saves) and put them into the game, there is also now a tool that takes an existing saved costume file, or a Sentinel+ XML file, and converts it into a small demorecord file, which can then be loaded with the game client. Current default location is Ms. Liberty's pedestal in Atlas Park, though there is a way of using other locations (I just don't know how).

And for posterity, here's the old Korean standalone costume creator and the instructions for using it in English.

Note that this standalone tool is very old (it was put out by NCSoft as part of the Korean launch of the game and later ditched). So, it doesn't have much in the way of parts compared to the modern creator, nor does it support the use of the modern costume saves, as they are in a different format. Still, it is amusing to tinker with if you have nothing else.

This makes me kind of happy.
Actually, it makes me very happy.
But it also makes me sad at the same time, in a way.

Now all I need is the install folder again. Appears I was too quick to delete it :(

I believe someone in that topic I linked was offering to aid in getting the i24 Beta client to anyone that had already deleted their clients. I'd offer to somehow send you my program folder, but I'm afraid I don't have the bandwidth available to do so, heh.

It works fine.

I plan on never deleting my files. If I keep them I feel somehow Paragon lives on.

Too bad there is no access to characters we already made but I believe the data all was on their servers and not local :( so no way to retrieve it.

Its too bad NcSoft can't set up something so we could at least access are old data, unless of course they wiped all the data - which would be a shame.

You're quite welcome Hak!

Yeah enovak, as far as I know you're right about the character data being server side, besides any costume files you may have saved, or any Sentinel+ data you'd extracted. Still, you can recreate anything you can remember at least now for posterity. I've already been hard at work recreating and saving all my 50's, as well as some of my others, since I'd only ever saved a couple of costume files myself. XD

And I too don't plan on removing my client installs anytime soon either. I paid for 'em, so I'm keeping 'em, heh.

I keep it in the hopes maybe someday someone will come up with a way we can do something - like the icon thing. As you said - the best we can do is recreate costumes for heroes we had. Its something at least to remember the game by.
