So I heard Albel was awesome in the non-Director's Cut version?

I kept hearing people said Albel was extremely strong in the original SO3, right on Maria and Cliff's tier. But due to the introduction of Cancel Combos, Albel's potential declines.

What does that have anything to do with it?
Was it because Albel's damage over time with the cancels is weak? or was his damage level overall was nerfed?

Well, comparing EChang's Battle Skills FAQ for the original:

...it looks like several of Albel's skills were far more powerful in the original. I imagine Hand of Doom (Goumashou) in particular was pretty badass with the old damage multipliers.

And yeah, I'm sure the addition of Cancel Bonuses didn't help, since Albel is kinda lacking in terms of powerful moves that link together well.

Maria wasn't actually quite Maria tier actually in the original version M_C ;o At least not with point blank Scatter Beams. Peppita's short O spam actually out performed SB substantially originally o_o
