I picked this game up again the other day for some nostalgia fun and i just reached the Urssa lava caves when i ran into a slight issue.
The first time i played this i remember throwing on Ice Blade and laughing as i ripped things apart throughout the cave. However this time when i run into Fire zombies i do no damage at all with or with out Ice Blade activated, not even mp damage, i dont remember this at all.
My teammates can still kill them with ease but i have to just run circles around the battle field like an idiot till they do. Just wondering if there were always immune or if it is another factor. I'm using the Rune Blade at the moment, going to try and change that now and see if that is somehow a factor at all. Though i don't see why it would be.
I'm pretty sure those guys have stupidly high DEF. With respect, I think rune blade works on everything. Rune blade is a normal weapon with the effect of sometimes releasing balls of light which also work on everything.
I think the last poster hit it -- the creatures in Urssa Lava caves have high DEF, and your ATK must be higher than their DEF to cause damage. Try using the "power up" symbol provided by Maria or by Adray. This may boost your ATK high enough to effect the enemies. You can also try synthesizing some Orichalcum to your weapons, which will add +500 to your ATK and should solve the problems. You can also use symbology which ignores DEF. Adray's Southern Cross or Deep Freeze should work. I think Fayt can also cast Deep Freeze.

Maybe it was their def, though i was tearing apart magma men no problem as well as those guys with the wings that dash around. The only ones giving me problems were the zombies and the the male witch that rides the broom. In the end though i just ran back to arigylph and got a holy sword and had no further problems.
Does their def also effect if you drain mp as well?

MP damage is the way to go here except for the lava-mudman types since they have alot. Increase MP damage on both short slots for the AI controlled characters. by then I've got Maria a beefed up gun so 1 or 2 hits with aiming device will take out fire zombies, witches or nova blaze easy. --- purity is almost always toxic
