is driving me bonkers, decided to play this game again after so long, and no way to turn down the music that is twice as loud as the voice acting blows ><

Monaural helps (with a sound quality drop as a side effect from losing a distinct channel), as does Headphones I believe.

Pro Logic II could work too if you have surround sound and an AVR that lets you turn down the volume of all but the Center speaker.

Headphones definitely helps, especially since I'm actually using headphones while playing the game on my PC via an emulator. I even have the graphics of a PS3 playing the game, rather than the blurriness of the PS2.
