You asked for it.

WaffIeElitePosted 4/10/2012 9:38:36 PM | There is no reason not to use Gau.
Right off the bat he is a strong contender, even without weapons his regular battle command (which incidentally occurs 50% of the time) is on par with the other characters until mid way or so through the WoB, an Atlas Armlet and a Hyper Wrist are a good investment on him in the beginning to help his normal battle damage continue to stay on par.
His rages give him the ability to take on not only the monster's attack but their status' as well. Enemy killing you with Ice attacks? Rage a monster who's immune, simple. Gau has the most versatility when it comes to defenses in the entire game, and he doesn't even require equipment.
Then you have a 50% chance for his rages to do something really special, which could end up slaying the entire enemy party or one shotting a boss at lower levels. Even if you ignore this, in the WoR when you get the Snow Muffler you can give him a 255 defense build which causes him to take 1 damage in front, or 0 in back. Tied with the right rage, he is basically unstoppable.
The only strike against him is that he cannot be controlled, which yes, that's a huge factor. But the correct rage and preparation makes that not a problem.
If the game was more difficult, I would find it more justifiable to bother with the huge hassle that is Gau. Most of the game you can pretty much autopilot through, and playing defensively is really not a necessity anywhere except certain challenges. |
madlashPosted 4/10/2012 9:39:57 PM | nyone here that doesn't prefer to use Gau? If so, why?
He needs grinding that others don't. You dont gain any experience on the plains where you can build him. Just setup a party with regular chars and you will be fine. Waster time lvling them up. --- Nope, they are exact. Gamefaqs doesn't post romaji, just numbers. - Sworder |
enigmatiqPosted 4/10/2012 9:49:38 PM | I played this game normally once (the first time) and used all characters equally except the fur ball. Afterwards, I wouldn't play this game without a restriction like NMG or LLG. Currently combining them for the first time... and Gau rocks, obviously. Honourable mention to Celes' Runic and Edgar's NoiseBlaster. |
LvthnPosted 4/11/2012 1:48:49 AM | I don't always break the game, but when I do, I prefer to use Gau. |
Vin_land (Topic Creator) Posted 4/11/2012 4:54:41 AM | Thanks for all the great info. I guess now isn't the time I should admit that I would always choose Cyan over Gau in previous playings...please don't hurt me. |

The game isn't as easy as you're making it out to be. Unless you're looking at a guide and overleveling, it's not exactly a walk in the park. --- 2365 4944 5716(Pokemon White Pal Code) 4469 3684 6040 (Platinum Pal Code)

MrEngineer1Posted 4/11/2012 8:16:50 AM | I never like using Gau.
Trying to find rages just bothers me, especially when hunting down specific ones.
I also don't like the lack of controlling.
Just a preference I suppose. |
Jormungandr83Posted 4/11/2012 8:37:26 AM | I enjoy using Gau, my only complaint is that I can never remember which rages do what. It would be nice if the rage list in-game summarized what their specials and status were. --- You're too late. I gave the job to some spellsword. |
