I have gotten past the first rat one time, but that's the best I've done so far. Any thoughts?

Don't reset if you get a battle the first time through, just die. You'll start outside the Opera House where you can save (use a different slot if you like) and you won't have to go through the whole thing again. You can do this up to three times, but if you fail a fourth time you WILL get a game over.
If I could give any advice about the actual rats, the first two rats are the hardest. Sometimes you'll get by the first rat and then the second rat won't cooperate and you'll get sandwiched between the two rats. I found the best way to get past the second rat is to stand on the 1-square dead end and use the "enter the menu" trick when he gets into your space. Hopefully he goes up a couple spaces and you can run past. It's so rare that he uses that branch that goes up like in Lufia_Maxim's video. Once past those first two rats, it's smooth sailing unless you get really unlucky.
Good luck and try not to get frustrated. |
Angus M (Topic Creator) Posted 8/17/2012 11:10:35 AM | Thanks for the advice. The "enter the menu" trick seems to work sometimes, but often I'll anticipate the rat coming to my position and enter the menu when in fact, he comes within one space of me and then turns around. Then when I go out of the menu, he is right there and I get into a battle. Also, sometimes I'll use the enter the menu and when I come out, the rat will still be in the way.
Still, I came really close one time, but I ran into the last rat before Ultros.
Now I'm wondering whether I can afford to get into one rat battle and still get perfect stats. It seems that I can gain three levels with Gau on the mine cart and still have Setzer and Terra join at Level 6. Then I can have Locke get to Level 6 with Bismark or ZoneSeek. The average would still be Level 6, so Shadow, Strago, Relm and Celes would all join at Level 6 (or Level 8 for Strago). After that, Gau can be leapt off, so his level doesn't matter.
Anything I'm overlooking, or would that work?
Also, if I'm going to gain three levels on the mine cart ride, I might as well try to get all four of the Mag Roader formations. Does anyone know if the information in the Mag Roader Guide works for the PSX version? If not, is it just random, or is there any way to make sure to get all four formations?
Thanks in advance,
