Calm lands chocobo dungeon help...

#1Lunar_SoulPosted 8/10/2011 4:48:55 PM
Trying to get to the chocobo dungeon in the calm lands but it wont show up... Ive been sending a set of 4 bold lv 5 choco's there and still nothing. From what ive read you need to send a choco of each level to the CL to get it to appear, ive done this already. Is it something that just requires a bit of luck or are there other requirements?

Here's copy and paste of what Split's guide tells you to do...

STEP 01: You'll need four lv1 bold chocobos.
STEP 02: The areas where they often appear are Kilika, Bikanel or Thunder p.
STEP 03: Go to any of these areas and begin capturing chocobos until you have
14 of them.
STEP 04: Return to the ranch and examine all chocobos you've captured by
'talking' to them in the stables. Release all chocobos whose max lv
can be 4 or lower. KEEP ONLY FOUR BOLD CHOCOBOS WHO CAN BE RAISED TO
LV5! If you don't have enough of such chocobos, return to areas I
mentioned and resume capturing.
STEP 05: You have four bold chocobos that can be raised to lv5? Good!
STEP 06: DO NOT RAISE THEM YET! Instead assign them to be your Runners.
STEP 07: Dispatch all four of them to Calm lands.
STEP 08: ONLY DISPATCHING THEM TO CALM LANDS WILL WORK!
STEP 09: Go fight 7 random battles, then return to the ranch and SAVE before
talking to Clasko.
STEP 10: Talk to Clasko and make sure that all four lv1 bold chocobos made it
back. If any ran away, reload.
STEP 11: Now raise all four lv1 bold chocobos into lv2 bold chocobos. Don't
forget to restore their Heart!
STEP 12: Dispatch all four of them to Calm lands. ONLY CALM LANDS!
STEP 13: Go fight 7 random battles, then return to the ranch and SAVE before
talking to Clasko.
STEP 14: Talk to Clasko and make sure that all four lv2 bold chocobos made it
back. If any ran away, reload.
STEP 15: Now raise all four lv2 bold chocobos into lv3 bold chocobos. Don't
forget to restore their Heart!
STEP 16: Dispatch all four of them to Calm lands. ONLY CALM LANDS!
STEP 17: Go fight 7 random battles, then return to the ranch and SAVE before
talking to Clasko.
STEP 18: Talk to Clasko and make sure that all four lv3 bold chocobos made it
back. If any ran away, reload.
STEP 19: Now raise all four lv3 bold chocobos into lv4 bold chocobos. Don't
forget to restore their Heart!
STEP 20: Dispatch all four of them to Calm lands. ONLY CALM LANDS!
STEP 21: Go fight 7 random battles, then return to the ranch and SAVE before
talking to Clasko.
STEP 22: Talk to Clasko and make sure that all four lv4 bold chocobos made it
back. If any ran away, reload.
STEP 23: Now raise all four lv4 bold chocobos into lv5 bold chocobos. Don't
forget to restore their Heart!
STEP 24: Now pay attention! Send out only Runners 1, 2 and 3 to Calm lands.
Keep Runner 4 at standby!
STEP 25: Go fight 7 random battles, then return to the ranch and SAVE before
talking to Clasko.
STEP 26: Talk to Clasko and make sure that all three Runners you sent out
made it back. If any ran away, reload.
STEP 27: Restore any and all lost Heart!
STEP 28: Again, pay attention! This time send out only Runners 2, 3 and 4 to
Calm lands. Keep Runner 1 at standby!
STEP 29: Go fight 7 random battles.
STEP 30: This time when you go back to the ranch, a scene will issue in which
Clasko tells girls that chocobos have discovered something in the
back of the ranch and would like you to go check it out.
STEP 31: Entrance to the dungeon will appear as a green square on the
minimap. Have fun!

Notice at the end you have to send runners 1 2 and 3 only (not 4) when they are level 4, and runners 2 3 and 4 (not 1) at level 5.

Following these steps will guarantee success every time.

Oh, if I can also mention, since I've done that list six times for six AP Eggs, and again for a final playthrough completion... if for some reason you send all four for each dispatch cycle, you can at the end when they are all level 5 send (1, 2, 3) and then again send level 5 (2, 3, 4) as a second dispatch cycle and achieve the same result. I made that mistakes many times from being inattentive.

You must send at least 3 of each level Chocobo to anywhere and have them all return. After sending 3 ( or 4 ) of a level and fighting at least 7 battles to have them return, save at the sphere in the ranch before talking to Clasko. If any don't return, reload and talk to Clasko again. After doing all that, you must have 4 level 5 birds, leave the ranch and return and you get a scene about the Chocobos finding a dungeon.

Ok, thanks. I had actually seen that strategy elsewheres on the net and was planning on trying it, but somewhere along the way it slipped my mind NOT to level the chocos... Oh well. Also, is there any way to get chocos to show up more often? Even with the lure bracer i get like 1 every 15-20 battles in thunder plains, whereas not to long ago i was getting like 1 every three battles.

Friends,

I tried this in my last play through. I just thought If i send enough of chocs to enough places, it would show up eventually. NOPE.

I must have send 200+ chocs to the calm lands. I think thats where they have to go. and I would go in and out of the dungeon, over and over. Just thinking THIS time, clasko will tell me.. NOPE.

I went up and down the chain,.. from 1 to 5... from 5 to 1... back from 1 to 5. NOPE>

I did get it ONE time. I am not sure what I did, but I THINK I followed the above directions to the letter. Took quite a while. LIke HOURS.

Get a lure item, so you get in a lot of fights. , it makes the time pass faster.

But it does work. its just not a shoot from the hip type of side quest.

PS. please keep us informed of if you get it to work.

I find Kilika to be more successful than Thunder Plains. I'm sure the encounter rate is random, but it kind of feels like it takes a few battles to even show up, but then they show up frequently once you get over that hump. Probably just coincidence.

Well, It worked... I think. -_-;
the chocos found the dungoen before i did the last dispatch. But in any case i have it open now, so thanks!
Also, it DOES seem like Kilika has the best chance of encountering chocos, kept running into 2 or 3 in a row lol
