The FE:6 support system

I'm just wondering about the FE:6 support system is it different from the FE:7 one or what because
in lots of debates all I see is
1/+1 etc what does this mean?
Sorry for asking, I've beaten this game a good few times but never bothered to learn the support system

http://www.eaichu250.superbusnet.com/FE6/fe6supports.php

It takes 60 support points to get a C support with units, 120 for a B and 200 for an A. 1/+1 means that the units start out with 1 support point between each other and their support increased by 1 point for each turn they're next to each other. Roy and Lilina start out with 56 support points and their support rises by 4 for each turn they're next to each other so, after spending one turn next to each other, they can get a C support the next turn.

Oh right
so 1/+1 just means it would take 60 turns to get the C support
Oh okay, so pretty much all that means is the support speed?
The bonuses are the same

Yeah, that's basically what it means (support speed).
