All these polls will probably get locked before they get 10 votes, but might as well try. Check the other Final Fantasy (AKA SaGa) games on Gameboy here for other polls.

The Girl. I remember Regen being pretty useful.

Marcie. The MP recovery can be used for both healing and outright offence. The only downside is that you only get to use Marcie in one area.

Bogard followed you?

I still liked Marcie, even though he/she/it had no development, I felt sad I was only with them for one area.

Indeed he does -- he's a gemma knight, so naturally he gets to fall multiple screens as well.

I lol'd

He helps you out in the airship, but it's for such a short time and he's so unhelpful that he's really tends to be more of a hindrance due to hitting enemies into you.

Marcie. Able to Nuke through an entire dungeon is always fun.

This is why I propose that Kevin is the -true- protagonist of SD3. He's the only character to have an enormous fall aside mandatory Canon Travel.

I will rank the companions

Tier 1

Marcie - distance attack, recovers your MP

Chocobo - required to beat the game, grants you invincibility so you get get out of a bad situation like death from poison, can't attack though

Tier 2

Girl - recovers your HP, can't attack

Watts - distance attack, has a shop

Tier 3

Man - best(?) attack, no special

Lester - distance attack, changes music

Amanda - distance attack, heals stone

Tier 4

Bogard - short attack, no special

Not sure I wouldn't move Chocobo and Watts down one.

Marcie is in their own category, Girl and Chocobo offer vital assistance (virtual invincibility), but no attacks.

Watts' shop isn't terrible. Amanda's ability is very useful for the dungeon she helps in. The "mystery Red Mage" probably hangs on here along with "almost no-ability" Lester.

I seriously don't remember Bogard even following you, much less doing anything helpful.

Ranking the companions is generally a bad idea. Especially since the girl essentially has infinite MP (and, thus, makes you invincible).

Marcie lets you spam Cure to your heart's content, so he'd also make you invincible.
