Can I Skip Phantasy Star II and III and be OK?

I've beaten Phantasy Star on the Master System and I found this game used at a good will and decided to buy it. Will I miss much of anything if I go ahead and skip to this game, or should I wait until I can find Phantasy Star II and III somewhere?

^Agreed.

But, I'd say go back and give II a try. It's dated but still pretty good.

I'd skip III altogether. Not because it's a boring game(I think it is) but it's really more of a side story anyway.
