How is magic calculated? (III)

I'm trying to make a hack of Final Fantasy 3j, but I don't understand some aspects of how magic determines it's targeting, 'reflectability', etc. Specifically, I'm looking for answers on what the fourth to seventh bytes of the eight-byte spell string do. They seem to vary even between extremely similar spells like Life and Life2.

I'll try to figure this out on my own, but in the meantime I would appreciate it there was somebody who has knowledge of this.

As an aside, I did like what this game attempted to do, being a fan of SaGa, but I'm more than a little glad for the existence of the DoS remake.
