...without resorting to the ID Bishop glitch to quickly powerlevel characters or without using emulator speedup? I actually beat this version on an emulator (AppleWin) and I tried to play it using the authentic console speed - it's UNBEARABLY slow. Much like Akalabeth, I simply couldn't stand the slow draw speed in the maze and the slow menu navigation speed. I just cranked the speed up to max to play it. Has anyone actually beaten the game on an actual Apple II? How long does it take? I've having a hard time imagining anyone beat the game considering the difficulty (and the main strategy of grinding on Murphy's Ghosts would take forever on the slow Apple II).
It's kind of interesting to play it at max speed though; it's the hardest version of Wizardry I because of the way the Haman/Mahaman spells work. It picks one of 5/7 effects at random instead of picking 3 out of the 5/7 effects and letting you choose (like in the PC/NES/SNES versions), which means the ultimate spell for nuking/shutting up Greater Demons and Werdna is much less reliable (although with 6 people in party at level 15 capable of casting it, I just spammed it on Werdna and any magic resisters I met on the way, made things much easier).
