The dwarf is my friend. (Staff of Change)

What a strange thing for that elf to say when you talk to her in dwarf form. Not "hello" or "how are you" or some normal greeting like that. Just "the dwarf is my friend." What the heck? She's talking TO me, and talking ABOUT me, in the third person. Uh, okay.

My personal favorite: "Even if you change your form, we'll know who you are. Aah! A human! I'll be kidnapped!"

That's just funny. Like first she's wagging her finger at us like an annoyed schoolteacher and then she screams and runs away like she's suddenly startled.

I think that elf chick is on drugs or something. She's nuts.

If you look like a monster and you talk to a horse it says: 'Iyaaay!!'

To a cat: 'Mraaah!!'

I'm really not sure how those are supposed to be pronounced.

Strangely enough, there are no dogs in this game, unlike 2 and 4 in the series. There are some dog-zombie-monsters though. Hmm... had the developers recently had some kind of bad experience with dogs when they were making this game? Who knows.

I've never gotten an elf sprite out of the Staff of Change. It seems that only the "Norud the Dwarf" sprite (which looks pretty human anyway, as do the elves) can shop at the elf village, as far as I know.

Has anyone here ever gained access to the elf shop with any other sprite? (I'm talking NES version.)

There seem to be other sprites in the game that the Staff of Change never gives me.

And it always takes forever to get the dwarf sprite when you want to shop.

I wonder if there's anything else in the game I've never noticed that involves the Staff of Change. Things that certain villagers say, etc.

And you never see dwarves or elves anywhere else. Well, there's that one guy in the shrine out by the world tree that has the same sprite as Norud, but he's never specifically identified as anybody. And that elf village isn't very big. There are only two buildings, four elves, and two horses. That's a village? That's all the elves and dwarves in the game. They didn't even have any Tolkien-esque races of people in the Dragon Quest games before 3, if I remember correctly.

Funny they're even there at all, since the game's world is trying to be a kind of homage/parody of the real world.

Yes, I know I'm thinking about it too much. Maybe I've played this game too many times.

I'm pretty sure there are only a handful of sprites you can change into, eight I believe, and elf is indeed not one of them. You've probably seen them all while trying to hit the dwarf sprite. ^_^

There are definitely a lot more than 8 options you can change into.

Okay, so it's 19: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/587249-dragon-warrior-iii/47883365?page=0#9

The elf still isn't one of them. ;-)
