Gradius

I'm a Gradius fan, but I hate this game.

*or if you wanna get really technical, Scramble, since Konami retconned it into the Gradius timeline for some reason*

Sorry, I didn't know about the arcade version. It's still the first console version though.

Ohh, and why do yo hate this game? It's a great game.

The first Gradius game I thoroughly played was Gradius III (SNES), 4 years ago. I decided to look into its arcade version, as well as its predecessors, and that's where I came across the AC version.

Then I tried the NES version and it just paled in comparison. You can only have 2 options (though understandable due to hardware limitations), you have a weaker laser, and I don't like the way the music was transplanted to this version. Also, stages 2 and 3 were taller, "wrap-around" stages (similar to a few stages in III) in the AC version; the NES version compresses them to 1 screen tall.

Other than that...maybe it's not so bad after all, after describing it. Maybe it's the hype that turns me away from more popular classic games?

Gradius III was somewhat better than this but it will still remain a classic to me. I haven't really gotten into Gradius II though, I might have to start playing that now.

Cool, thanks for the advice. I'm guessing if you die here you can't pass the game, so

I always die on the crystal stage ._.

It's just really hard to pass without a laser or Spread Bomb.

On the FC version, I died on that stage and eventually made it to the boss on my last life...and then I run into a laser. =/
