So, i can defeat the first two forms with not much problem, but the third form is giving me a headache. It deals WAY too much damage. --- ''Never trouble trouble till trouble troubles you'"
There's a few tricks you can use to whoop up on him. The main goal it to kill the core. That's the only way to damage his life points. First, you should attack the head until it falls off and rolls through you (this is unavoidable unless you have some rapid fire controller, emulator mod, etc., but it's only one point of damage, so no biggie). Second, take out the tail. It just makes things easier and gives you lots of space to run around and dodge the fireball thingys that spew out from above. Finally, go for the core to finish him off. The key is to focus on dodging the junk that comes from above. Stay focused on that and only attack when you have an opening. As you know, they do a TON of damage. Once you take out the tail, his body can't hurt you, so feel free to rub up against him to the right as much as you need to in order to dodge the fireball stuff (what is that stuff I wonder???) One more tid bit most people don't know about is that if you jump and slash, you can hit down and slash to make Ryu attack again. If you rapidly hit down and slash, there's no limit to the number of times you can attack in the air. I can't do this extremely well, but I do manage about 3 attacks per jump, which is helpful. Here's a vid I made to help someone skip the second boss at the end. The same tactic of dying by the third boss and getting the spin cut will work if you just say screw it and want to get past him. In this vid, I do fight the third boss (it's around 3:20 I think). I got pretty lucky with the easy to dodge junk he was throwing at me, but the strategy is pretty easy to see. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dv4QgUADhVs Good luck! Let me know how it goes!
Something you can do if you're having a great deal of trouble is to intentionally lose the fight until Game Over. Then play through the level again, acquire Fire Wheel Ninpo, and save it until you get to the boss. If you position yourself at the right angle, each time you cast it, all four fireballs will dead a point of damage each, so it only takes a few to kill it, and you don't have to run right up to, limiting your exposure to those...things. This works in Ninja Gaiden 2 as well. Now the above said, I haven't played this for about a decade, but I'm pretty sure that if you Game Over on any of the three final bosses, that replaying the level doesn't make the boss order reset (I know for fact that it doesn't on Ninja Gaiden 2, but not certain about 1).
In Ninja Gaiden, if you die (not game over, just a single death) against one of the 3 final bosses, you're immediately thrown back to 6-1. If you killed any of the 3 bosses, they stay dead. I think they even stay dead if you get a game over and have to continue, but I'm not sure. I know if you have to continue, you only go back to the beginning of the section you're on. For example, if you die and continue right outside the final boss entrance, you'll go back to the beginning of 6-3, but if you enter and die to the boss, even if it's not a continue, you'll go back to 6-1. So yes, you can die by a boss that's giving you trouble, then work your way back through the level to fight that same boss with some ninja art. I'd say the spin cut works better than the fire wheels through, since you can kill any target with a single spin cut attack. It is a little harder to hang on to. The video I posted shows the last position of the spin cut in the level, so you just have to make it from that point to the end without dying or accidentally picking up another art

Oh yes, sorry. I was assuming the ninpo (or whatever the number is called that says how much "stuff" you can use) was down to 0 like it always is the first time you fight him. If you have some ninja art available, you can destroy it with the jump spin cut without taking any damage. I was thinking from a "no hit" standpoint, because in order to get any ninpo for that fight, you have to die by him first. I didn't know the windmill shuriken could destroy it. Good to know. Thanks Chase.
Glad to see people still play this game!
