I first played this game way back when it came out and I was a kiddie, but I didn't think of a good method of winning these races until playing it again recently. I study percussion in school, so I start to develop little tricks for playing syncopated or "off beat" rhythms. One of the methods is to play the downbeats on your leg with your right hand, and play the off-beats with your left hand on whatever instrument you are playing at the time.

The same principle worked brilliantly in the Yoshi race. If you can tap 8th notes alternating between your right and left index fingers, you can win the race easy every time.

So, when you hear the music, just tap the downbeats (bass drum sound) with your right hand finger. I normally just tap somewhere on the controller where there are no buttons. And, tap A and B (alternating) with the "off beat" cymbal hits. I play music professionally, so you might need a bit more practice to figure out the pattern. But, once you get it, it's a cake walk. The right hand strokes are unnecessary in a perfect world, but ultimately help you time the off-beat strokes. I earned 165 cookies in 10 minutes or so (hit a 10:1 betting 10 cookies, =). I can't even remember if the cookies are useful or not, but I now have a ****ton of them.

Does that make sense to everyone? I could make a youtube video to demonstrate, but would I get banned if it involved roms? (don't have access to my SNES anymore).

You can post a video as long as there is no link to a ROM in the description or anything like that.

Good idea but I'm the simplest of people that have a sense of rhythm shouldn't find this that hard to beat.

What bass sound are we talking about here? Those that are incorporated in the race music? Although it doesn't really sound easy given that we are going into practicing and professional musician experience here........

I remember I just look at the feet and press at the end of every boost.

The cookies are kind of useful. If you trade in 21 or more cookies at once to the Baby Yoshi, then you have a small chance of getting a Red Essence. If you don't get one, then you can just reset until you do.
