How do I unlock other factions?

#1ljmvp27Posted 7/20/2009 10:32:59 AM
I have heard I can unlock them but i dont know where to go or even what to do when i get there. I have beaten the game as the Bruiti, the Greek Cities, and I even conquered the entire map as the greek cities but I still havent unlocked all the factions.

Some help please.

So you want to mod the game so you can play all the factions? Good!

Open up a folder and go to the C drive. This is where you'll want to head:

C Drive -> Program Files -> Activision -> Rome: Total War -> Data -> World
-> Maps -> Campaign -> Imperial Campaign

Once there, click on the text file "descr_strat". At the very beginning, it
will tell you all the playable, unlockable, and nonplayable factions. This is
what you want it to look like:

campaign imperial_campaign
playable
romans_julii
romans_brutii
romans_scipii
egypt
seleucid
carthage
parthia
gauls
germans
greek_cities
romans_senate
macedon
pontus
armenia
dacia
scythia
spain
thrace
numidia
britons
end
unlockable

end
nonplayable

slave
end

---

Just copy and paste all the factions sans Slave under the "playable" section
just like that. Make a copy of this file if you want and then save it. Now
you should be able to play with all he factions, besides the Senate. You
can't play with them. If the game screws up in any way after this, reinstall
and try again. That's what I did. ;)

I tried that but them when I go to exit and save it this comes up:

Cannot create the C:\Program Files (x86)\Activision\Rome - Total War\Data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign\descr_strat.txt

Make sure the path and file name are correct.

So now what do I do

Right click on the game folder and check the permissions under security. Also make sure "Read Only" is UN-checked in the General tab. Do this to file your editing as well.

Does that help?

what am i supposed to be looking for when i go to security and permission

I would assume anything that would prevent you from altering anything ... I've never had any problems changing anything, and that bit is from another thread that didn't have any posts in it afterward.

... Full Control, Modify, Read and Write, I guess.

You're lucky, I can't even get that far. My Rome - Total War folder is hiding; it's not in the Activision folder and I have no Creative Assembly folder. I have no idea where it is.

Did you try to Search for it?
