Collaborative FAQ Name Change, New User Levels Added for New Users
Back To: Board List | Topic List
We've renamed the "Collaborative FAQ" section to "Game Wiki" to better reflect what it is. We've also created a new tab for the Game Wiki. Nothing else has changed except the name and the URL. Also, starting today, we're adding three new user levels and easing up the posting restrictions for most new users. Previously, all new users would start at Level 10 and stay there for 48 hours, moving up to Level 15 if they had positive karma or 11 if they had zero karma. The new system will identify users based on their connection type, and assign a level based on how likely to be abused that connection is: Level 14: Can post 4 topics and 40 messages a day, no hourly restrictions. This level will be given to users identified as cable modem users from most major ISPs in the US and Canada. Level 13: Can post 3 topics and 30 messages a day, 15 posts per hour. This level will be given to other home users on other types of broadband connections (DSL, Fiber) from most major ISPs. Level 12: Can post 2 topics, 20 messages a day, 10 posts per hour. This level will be given to users identified as businesses or Universities - they often share IP addresses, and may host computers that get compromised for spam. Level 11: Can post 1 topic, 15 messages a day, 5 posts per hour. This level will be given to users identified as using mobile connections - who are often hard to identify, but are hard to abuse. Level 10: Can post 1 topic, 10 messages per day, 3 per hour. This is the default level for any user not identified as being in one of the above groups, the same as today. Instead of automatically moving up to level 11/15 after 48 hours, users will now move to level 15 once they reach 3 karma. This change will begin today, and we'll retroactively assign new levels to those users currently at level 10 soon. So far, we've identified around 60% of our daily users as coming being in one of those first four groups, which means that most of our new users will start off with better privileges than before, and we'll be working to identify as many of the remaining 40% as possible over the next several weeks. --- Um, not to criticize science or anything, but wouldn't it be easier just to call it "the pink one"? |
