Is this game going to be set in the real world like the ace combat on psp or is this set in a fictional setting?
I am hoping real world.
It'll be real world.
Too bad too. I won't lose sleep or cry over it, but the fictional world did have it's charm.
both have their appeal but I agree fictional settings tend to have more charm.
Laugh, and the world laughs with you. Weep, and you weep alone.

I have mixed feelings about bringing the series into the real world but want to give this a chance. However the more I think about it I really wished that namdai would've just stuck to the fictional world. There was just something about the feel and the charm that I am not getting from the prospect of the RW. Time will tell.
I'm hoping that they add more of the actual warfare feeling to this game than the previous. In the previous games, the nation's air force seems to be the main force, and the combat on the ground is in support of your planes...not the other way around.
I want to feel like I'm doing combat missions towards a real goal in a believable military campaign...not just shooting down enough planes to get to the next level. Real world is better able to do that IMO because that's now war works.

Still the same thing could be done using the fictional world as well. Like I said I have mixed feeling about the new game. That's the thing that set the Ace Combat series apart from other flight games. It had it's own charm. The fictional world to me felt no different that being in the real world. Even though the countries, cities and such had different names, there were similarities to those of the real world.
Personally I thought AC6 was awesome! Just like 04,5 and Zero. I felt that AC5s story could have been done better but it was still great and the missions;though maybe not authentic full real life military campaigns were still interesting. The stories for each game were very interesting as well in their own ways. Yes there are things I wish that could have been done differently but still it's what made the series great. Then there are the various aces and ace squadrons, they too added to the flavor of the series , as with you being a nameless, faceless person. I know a lot of people can't stand it , but it was all part of what Ace Combat is/was.
Time will tell for sure how us long time fans and new comers will take to the game. Seriously I am not thrilled really with trying to add the feel of hawx and Modern Warfare into the Ace Combat series. I'm pretty sure there's still going to be that element of taking down X amount of enemies to get to the next mission ,level or whatever. Or maybe the game will be as you hope But Ace Combat is Ace Combat and I know there are others who would like to see it remain that way.

That's why I don't really mind the change. Even the countries in the fictional world were designed as fake counterparts to real nations. So there's really not much they could do with it that can't be replicated with real world locations and a little creative license.
I'm also not super attached to the fake world because it also didn't really mesh together too well to feel like much of a world/universe. There were a few negligible namedrops in each, but essentially each title could have easily taken place in its own universe.

I can understand why people have their reasons for wanting the series in the real world. But for myself I enjoyed the fictional world more. Perhaps it because there was a unique feeling and appeal about it, something I just don't get now with the real world. But I am willing to accept to a degree and want to give this new way a chance.
It's ironic that back in the days of AC4 I swore up and down that the events of that game took place in the real world; just with some additional fictitious continent. When I found out it was actually a fictional world I was disappointed some. But after awhile I grew accustomed to it and enjoyed. Maybe it will be same here where I will grow accustomed to idea of AC now being in the real world. However, regardless how this turns out or how much I will enjoy the new game, there will always be that love for the fictional world and it's charm.
There are so many parallels between our world and theirs it's pretty much interchangable.
