A Sort of Homecoming: I'm playing the BioShock games out of order.

I'm actually prepping to play BioShock 2 for the first time.

See, I played BioShock 1, then I played Infinite.

A return to Rapture didn't really appeal to me much after the first go-round... but now I find it really inviting as a way to go home again.

I think this might even be the best way to play the games that currently exist. 1, 3, 2.

Plus, playing as a Proto-Big Daddy? That's actually pretty distinct from playing as some human dude with no clear backstory who wind up having TWIST REVEALS about their heretofore unknown history (er, unless the BD in BioShock 2 has that too... )

Well, I guess Big Daddies don't have a clear backstory EITHER, but you also don't really expect them to, right?

why do people keep acting like backstories are so important and somehow bring games down if they aren't spelled out? is it just unoriginal people copying what was already said in 10 topics but pretending they have a new point to make? they are as irrelevant to a game played by ME than they are to any porno.

did anyone ever watch porn and say, "BUT WHAT IS THE PLUMBER'S MOTIVATION!? I CAN'T GO ON WATCHING THIS SENSELESS BANGING"

sort of like milhouse watching poochie.

Oh, you're right, his initial backstory is that he was on a plane that crashed... silly me.

Wait, no, that's not a backstory at all.

I'm referring to what happens out of the gate, before the spoilers.

You completely missed the point of my post which had nothing to do with anything about this, at all.

Like, not even a little bit is this related to this post.

^lol, RIIIIIIIIGHT.

so you just (more or less) told everyone that you never even played the first bioshock (since in that game you have no backstory out of the gate either), yet you're disappointed in the sequel for being...what...like the first game? :P

I think perhaps you're the one who didn't understand my post. I never claimed the original had no backstory - in fact I said PRECISELY that.

That's my point - both the original game and Infinite share that similar structure.

I never said anything about "being disappointed."

This post is about how BioShock 2 is perhaps best played after Bioshock Infinite, and how it actually differs from the narrative style of the other two games in a way that's interesting when viewed from that perspective.
