Question about Character Deaths

#1toxic_jackalPosted 4/2/2012 2:07:48 PM

If I do all the loyalty missions for the Normandy crew and get all the ship upgrades, does this mean all of them will survive the suicide mission? I'm planning on importing my ME 2 save file to ME 3 eventually, and I'd like to keep as many people alive as possible. How many and what other factors do I need to be aware of to make sure the majority of my crew survives the suicide mission so they will reappear in ME 3 (especially Garrus, as I'm romancing him)?

The reason why I'm asking is that thus far, I've done all loyalty missions for all the crew up to this point in the game (just right before getting Legion). The problem is I've lost the loyalty of Miranda, so I'm not quite sure how to get it back.

if you have a high enough Paragon or Renegade rating, go talk to her in her room and she maybe persuaded to like you again.

if everything is upgraded and everyone is loyal, you still need to send the right people to do the right task or people will still die. even if Miranda is not loyal, she won't die if you don't trust her to do any task.

Anytime you have too choose a pack leader or someone to send into the vents, never pick miranda, since she's not loyal she will die. When it comes time for you to go fight the last boss fight you'll be asked who you want to take with you, take the lower defense characters like Mordin, Kasumi, Tali, or Jack since removing them from the equation boosts the average defense rating of the team holding the door. Read the section below for a more detailed explaination of who you should leave behind to protect the door.

Got this from a guide on another site...

Each character has a defensive rating. Grunt, Zaeed, and Garrus are all 3. Thane, Legion, Samara/Morinth, Jacob, and Miranda have a defensive rating of 1. Mordin, Kasumi, Tali, and Jack have a rating of zero. Add a 1 to each rating if they're loyal, add up all of the ratings, and then divide by the total number of characters holding the line (in short, take an average), if the average rating is above 2.0, then all will survive. If it's below, then anyone that isn't loyal or weak defensively will die.

You must leave Miranada behind with the crew guarding the door but as long as you leave her with high defensive characters she will survive.

Sorry if that all sounds confusing, it's EXTREMELY hard to explain lol.

Long story short, if you take Tali and Jack to the last boss fight with you, the defensive line will have an average defense of 2.3 which is more then enough for everyone to survive.

this is true for everyone except Miranda. she can only die on the last boss or at the line.

As for the suicide mission itself, here's a list of who to send for what jobs (i'll leave out miranda since sending her on any job not loyal is certain death)

Vents: Tali, Kasumi, or Legion
Fire Team Leader: Garrus, or Jacob

Biotic Specialist: Samara/Morinth or Jack
Fire Team Leader (Part 2): Garrus, or Jacob
Escort: Mordin, Kasumi, Tali, or Jack

And like I said above the weakest defensive characters are the ones who are the best for the escort, so if you send Jack as an escort, take Mordin and Tali to the last boss fight, if you send Mordin for the escort take Jack and Tali for the last boss fight, etc etc....

It's actually not hard to figure out once you have all the info you need but I went through all this headache my first 2 or 3 times through the game so if I can use that experience to help someone else i'm happy.

Really? Wow thought I knew everything about the suicide mission. Learn something new everyday I guess.

Miranda + Jack argument:

You side with one and lose loyalty of the other. Presumably you did not have enough paragon points to get the blue conversation option "This is a distraction". I'm guessing that this is the case because the corresponding renegade requirement isn't so exacting.

You can regain loyalty with a high paragon conversation option (don't know whether the requirement is as high as the initial "defuse the argument" option). To maximize your chances, rearrange your skills at the research console. You won't to progress your passive class skill to level 4 and select the option that maximizes paragon / renegade points (i.e. 100% bonus rather than 70% bonus).

Now go talk to the disenchanted character. Assuming you've leant broadly towards paragon throughout the game, you should be able to regain their loyalty.

If you want, reassign skill points again. You shouldn't be needing the really high paragon score again.

To reassign skill points you'll need 5000 EEZO (assuming you want to put them back again). If you don't have this, look in a guide for high EEZO planets and go do some mining first.

Near as I can tell, it's impossible for Miranda to die unless Sheppard dies.

Miranda had no loyalty in my game. At the end it was her, Tali, and Zaeed (no loyalties) holding the line, only Tali died.

you are incorrect, take her to the last battle, she would've died.

Miranda lived cause Zaeed was there and Tali was also not loyal so she takes the first bullet. an unloyal Zaeed can usually protect at least one other character.
