Playing pagan is the basically playing christian except you can conquer/invade and get holy war'd out of the game in the first ten years...

You can unlock it by editing one of the game files, you simply change a "playable=no" to a yes somewhere, Google it.

Prolly they gonna officially add it in next expansion..at least thats what the designer claimed in magz interviews.

Or..you can choose to educate your heir to a pagan..he/she will gain the religion of the mentor..and once you die..voila!

I can't imagine vassals being too happy after that, unless you can somehow convince them.

Diff religions/cultures vassals will prolly revolts. Therein lies the fun of revoking their lands and/or demanding their conversions.

SoI let you play Moslems. Next expansion will prolly let you play Pagan anyway. Being able to play as Mongol will be the next logical step to this game. But not so sure if they will bring their Tengri religion too..as historically most Mongols convert to Islam.

Rest to current player base to experiment and "cheat" into the Suomi/Romuva/Norse Pagan religions.

Try starting from Iceland or North Scandinavia..playing the followers of Odin and convert the rest of the world into Thor-ganging Vikings lol.

My next experiment in this game gonna be Vikings starting from Iceland and converting England and then the rest of the world. Loki forbids..lol

That was going to be my next game too O_o

Except I was going to start as a single count somewhere in north scandanavia and become a norse king of Finland.

I'll probably get Holy war'd out of the game in two years though... Except I'll use save manipulation to break the HRE up into it's individual kingdoms so that might give me a chance.

Been there..tried that..too much work lol

Much headaches and heartaches ensue.

After breaking them up to dejure duchies..soon enough its swallowed back into Empire..most of the time by Poland or Brunswick.

But..yeah, took some time..almost a decade.

Finland in this game always got swallowed by Norway and Sweden..sigh

I am currently swallowing bits and pieces of HRE..10 years truce is a hassle..dont wanna cheat by assasinating current Emperor to by-pass the truce anyway @,-p..

that's not really cheating though... the game is designed around Medieval realism. rulers faced assassination attempts all the time. killing one wouldn't be cheating.

If you use save manipulation to break the HRE apart you need to make sure the title has no holder. Otherwise someone might inherit it and the HRE can bounce back even if they have just a couple counties. To get the title to have no holder you have to have their last counties taken so the Holy Roman Emperor holds no land and has no vassals they can take more land from. I did it by playing the independent King of Lothargia I had just created and typing claim c_baden and claim d_baden. I then declared war loaded my HRE game and surrendered.

No one held the title then, and no one ever is able to reclaim 80% of the empire to recreate it. Usually two powers erupt from the six kingdoms, Italy and Germany most of the time from what I have seen, sometimes Bavaria. Once Frisia conquered all of England, another time Burgundy conquered half of Spain. Hell one time the pagans of Mecklanburg founded the Kingdom of Pomerania and conquered Poland and half of Hungary and became a scarier menace than the mongols in my Serbian game. It's awesome breaking up the Empire. I can't play the game without doing it now just because of the awesome and extremely varied results that come from it.
