so GAMEPLAY wise, heres why im NOT playing dmc

Crummy storytelling and character design aside, oh yeah and THIS is supposed to be the True Prequal to devil may cry 1 and now not only are dante and vergil part angel, but vergil is a seraphim (a warrior of heaven), but theres ALOT of gameplay mechanics that have changed and its because of this i wont even bother renting this game.



- so the first and most annoying feature ive read about it the LOCK ON FEATURE IS GONE! yes GONE. (Players, ive noticed, would spend all their time locked on to one enemy and if that one moved they would jump in the air and waist time swinging blithly instead of hitting another near by foe. - tameem) and have replaced it with the autolock onto the closest enemy with gunfire, which was one of the BIGGEST COMPLAINTS in dmc2, and to have dante 'lockon' to whichever villian hes facing for melee. now heres where i have the biggest complaint, because the lock on feature was an intigral part of gameplay. u needed to be locked on to perform specific moves such as dantes trademark stinger. in fact everything from weapons to styles all had a special technique that was done by locking on and using the buttons with the analog stick in a specific direction. soooo, there goes half the abilities right there.


- which brings me to my next complaint, the gameplay itself has been altered into a dynasty warriors-esc mechanic where square is the primary attack and triangle is the charge attack, or launcher in this case. so i guess they found a way around the whole lock on feature :/


- next is the 'devil arms'. dante being a half angel half devil half human? he has slots for both devil and angelic arms. the shoulder buttons. its no longer equipping a devil arm and playing to your hearts content. now you hold R1 for the devil arm and L1 for the angelic arm. but once u let go of said button, it reverts right back to the 'rebellion'


- styles are all but gone in this game due to the fact (devil may cry 1 didnt have any styles. if dante wanted to run up a wall you would run to it and run up it. if he wanted to charge his guns you would hold down the gun button and it would charge, you shouldnt lose out on trademark moves because you dont have the proper style equipped. - tameem) and since theres now 2 attack buttons and a gun button and the jump, that would be confirmed in the button sceme alone :/


- the combo clock is gone as well. meaning it will be far easier for everyone to get an s style ranking. (the only things that will cause your combo meter to drop are to either get hit or to beat the enemy at the end of the stage. we wanted everyone from beginners to hardcore gamers to be able to pick up the controller and feel like a badass. - tameem) dude, seriously. that was the whole point of the combo meter and having sss ranking. ITS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE EASY! thats the point of the game! its to link your different weapons in new and elaborate ways to further enguage players in the gameplay. its obviously whatever. theres an article saying the brits know what theyre doing so clearly they have played devil may cry before.


all these core concepts that are gone are what made devil may cry special and unique, for a genre that redefined hack and slashes, ninja theory has done away with everything that made the series what it is. im sure this guy can tell a story, and tbh ive been a huge supporter of the game since its initial announcement at e3 2010, and ive been on board the entire time. but within the past few weeks of making these ganmeplay announcements ive gone from wanting to buy the game and being a huge supporter, to renting it and still giving it a chance, to not wanting anything to do with it. im going to wait a few weeks after the games supposed release IF IT EVER COMES OUT! and just watch the cutscenes on youtube. congrats ninja theory, you have effectively ruined an entire legacy with your 'reinvisioning'. to me, youre no better than michael bay and his Alien Ninja Turtles.

Dante is half demon and half angel. Plus, Capcom said they MAY implement this as a part of the actual timeline.

The combo clock is still there, just lamer.

Yes, we all hate Michael Bay but you should come to these boards more often.

Dante's escort Kat, uses some magic spray to mark walls. At one point she is held by Mundus.

The very first boss swears constantly.

True that the lock on button is gone, but that doesn't automatically mean the game will have next to no abilities. Tameem has said that you can still upgrade the weapons, which already look to outnumber the rest of the series(melee wise, anyway).

Square is shoot, triangle is melee(just like past games), and circle is launcher.

Not seeing how that is a big deal. You can still equip a weapon and play to your heart's content, you just have to hold the button as far as we know. And it's R2/L2 and RB/LB.

If you can still perform different actions and abilities how is it really an issue? Besides, angel/devil abilities and weapons kind of replace styles in a seemingly more accessible manner.

I do recall hearing the combo clock is gone, but I'm not sure where. Meh, it wouldn't bother me. It was never hard to get an SSS style ranking and keep it up. If anything it'd just help out the casuals. Any competent player would be unaffected. Though they could still tweak that if it is true.
