Was Dantes combat system better in 3 or 4?

Considering DMC4 is far from being a proper sequel to DMC1, I agree. Gilgamesh did do a crapton of damage. If the game handled more like DMC1 it wouldn't have been that bad of a choice. It is because of this high damage, plus the inclusion of the bug that allows "Distortion" that DMC4 is by far the easiest game in the series. It's absolutely ridiculous how one can destroy bosses on DMD in a matter of seconds.

Which was also possible for some of the battles in DMC1. Keyword here is some. In DMC4 it's basically every single one of them.

You seem to know your way around combos, you have to admit some fun times can be have when you start doing "pro" combos.

But yes, weapon variety was garbage, I love lucifer and pandora(still weird though ) but they needed more variety, specially Nero, makes no sense he wouldn't have a brawler like style, dude you have a DEVIL ARM.

Wait a min, throwing stuff like say, a car was in the trailer, any word on that?

with some practice 4 was the best, being able to switch on the fly made things very fun. I was really hoping the next DMC game expanded and polished it up. A combination of the concepts DMC4 introduced with the polish and variety of 3 would have been the best Dante from a combat standpoint, hands down.

Of course I had some fun times playing DMC4. Sadly I had more fun with Nero because his movelist, the enemies and the levels are all pretty much perfect for the game. With Dante, everything feels like a mess. Granted that Nero is extremely limited even with every single one of his moves. What, couldn't give him a secondary weapon or even DB modes via d-pad? It's yet another wasted opportunity.

At the touch of a button, let's say R2, he could switch to hand-to-hand moves beyond using Buster. Why the hell not? Red Queen and Blue Rose do sufficient damage on their own, he basically doesn't even need DT to beat bosses efficiently with the aid of Exceed moves and Charge Shot lvl3's. Why indeed not give him a hand-to-hand moveset that does very little damage but dishes out plenty of hits and has a moveset about as practical as the Red Queen?

In addition to that, let's give him Yamato its own moveset as well. Dante got an extremely limited one, but nonetheless he got to use it by itself, why not Nero? Why is he only capable of pulling it out with Showdown?

This occurred to me all those years ago; the D-pad could mapped so that you press, I dunno, Down to select hand-to-hand moves, Left for Red Queen, Right for Yamato, and Up for.. I dunno, a third weapon. Any third weapon, really. Maybe Credo's sword, or dual wielding that sword with the Red Queen. ANYTHING.

As I said before, wasted. Wasted opportunities and potential everywhere.


Back to Dante though, my personal experience with the game diminished severely everytime I tried to switch to different weapons beyond E&I and Rebellion. I really, really tried to like this game, I really did want to enjoy it, I really did want to master it, but couldn't. Dante simply has far too many flaws, it's incredibly distracting but more importantly, depressing. DMC3 isn't even my most favorite game in the series, it's DMC1, and I'm still depressed, angry and butthurt that Capcom half-assed DMC4 THAT hard.

You start to use Rebellion and you feel like, wow, this is just like DMC3... except I can switch between styles at the same time... E&I's Charge Shot lasts so much longer now, Dance Macabre is beautiful -- fine, they removed Crazy Dance from it but that's okay, Prop Shredder is a fantastic move now, Aerial Rave looks more stylish, I can do Quick Drive now, I can even charge Drive if I want and they've enhanced it with Over Drive too! Well, Round Trip is the most useless in the series now but, holy hell, everything else about Rebellion is just porn. And now I can extend Rainstorm by just holding the button, and Dante won't stop doing it when doing it from too high. Honeycomb Fire is pretty stylish too, I approve. Twosome Time... ehh, whatever, I don't need it. Now let's switch to other gun--

omg what have they done to the shotgun it's so slow it's worse than DMC2 I can't knock anything back unless shooting them from 2 pixels holy crap Gunstinger takes forever to recover what have they done to Fireworks -- Well. Backslide is nice, I guess but -- WHERE THE HELL IS POINT BLANK oh my gaaaawwwddd Capcooooooooooooommmm!!!!1

And repeat for the other weapons. I honestly could write an entire book with all the things they did wrong. I pretty much have, anyway, over the years. **** DMC4, man. I want my money back. I want my decency and innocence back.
