EduardoESRPosted 11/25/2012 6:47:40 AM | Wow, you guys are just pathetic, calling the people who enjoy this game Capcom employees? Seriously, those guys don't give a f*** about what you all say here, gamefaqs has the minority of the buyers, there aren't even 1k people on this forum, they'll still get lots of cash even if none of us here buy It. |
PureNothingnessPosted 11/25/2012 9:17:46 AM (edited) | I'm pretty mixed about it. On the one hand, I really like the combat. It does take a lot of getting used to (especially if you're muscle memory is set for the old games), but once you hit that groove it's smooth as silk. My only complaints are the lack of lock-on and, while I wasn't a fan of the new DT initially, I can see why they did what they did. It runs out a lot faster than previous games, but it also resets enemy pressure and gives you free combo opportunities by launching all of them.
On the topic of enemy variety, it's...okay for now. I realize that it's the beginning of the game, and they've showed off a lot more enemies in the trailers, so I'm looking forward to that. The Osiris-only and Arbiter-only demons are a good idea on paper, but not well-implemented. Instead of making all other attacks ricochet, make them go through but not stun them or something--it certainly sounds better than leaving you wide open. Outside of that, enemy AI is alright, but the old games didn't have spectacular AI, either.
I still dislike the new Dante's personality, and I greatly dislike the writing. The old DMC's worked because they were stupidly cheesy, but so did the developers and voice actors. They knew it was cheesy and hammed it up. In this one, it's cheesy with everyone acting serious about it. It just doesn't work.
I can't complain about the music--very much in the vein of the last two DMC's. Sound effects are good and not distracting. Level design's good as well, promoting platforming and exploration. The color palette...well, I hope it gets a little better. A bit too high-contrast for my tastes.
As it stands now, the demo's changed my opinion of the game. I'm not loathing it anymore, and I may actually buy it if I have the cash and if nothing better releases around it. --- "Even a stray has pride." -Gabranth, Final Fantasy XII PSN: Mysteltain |
