Get over it. The new Dante and the art direction they're taking seems good. Time goes by, the audience evolves. Games need to adapt. The whole "anime-like swordsman-dude with cool hair" is a thing of the past, along with that 'melodramatic Japanese storytelling'. It's time for something more modern, gritty, real and stylish.
The essence of the characters and the key trademarks of the series is still there. I don't see what's the problem.
A breath of fresh air and new direction is just what this series needed. Hopefully Capcom will do the same with Resident Evil, who also seem to be continuously deteriorating by the outdated "Japanese anime direction". --- "I'll make my own FFVIII CGI movie, with blackjack and hookers!"
I'm fine with the direction they are going in with this in terms of the style of the world and the alternate storyline.
That being said, I feel like Dante should have been the one thing holding on to a bit of the old style, but his personality just isn't doing it for me.
They should have just gone with a new main protagonist and completely severed ties with Dante (at least for this game) so they could have avoided fan backlash. --- July 18, 2011: The day Capcom lost my support. RIP MegaMan Legends 3 GT: Ragtag 21

Um, yeah, seems you definitely know a lot about Japanese story telling. Also this "anime" direction is completely in your head. When I think of good story telling in anime I think of Monster, Steins Gate, Miyazaki's films, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (and if you push it to VNs Umineko which will blow away most everything western media has been cranking out in past few years). --- Beatings will continue until morale improves!
