It was the game that introduced us to Dante's Rebellion and I happen to love that weapon, didn't have a backstory till DMC3 though.

DMC2 wasn't necessary cause it was the first game that made me miss Alastor, haha.
Nah, but in all seriousness, I get what you're trying to say.

In DMC 2, Rebellion had the same exact description for Force Edge in DMC 1. I call it designers being lazy. Rebellion didn't get its distinct look or move set until DMC3.

DMC2 was important in its own way. It showed what not to do with this genre and somethings were good ideas, just not executed right. One could say it was the most important learning experience not only for the DMC series but for the hack and slash genre as a whole.
When coincidence is so convenient, I prefer to call it fate.

To this day, I still say DMC2 is the best in the series. This game might beat that.

...umm...what? Rebellion looks a lot different from Force Edge, it doesn't have the curved guard

It was necessary because it showed what DMC fans wouldn't put up with.

But it seems like Capcom needs another lesson.

DMC has fans?

This game will prove just how meaningless the old fanbase was.
