DmC: Devil May Cry

This isn't intended to be a joke topic (just want to get that out there). There seems to be a lot of fear and anger that DmC might take the place of the original DMC. I highly doubt that and using current information from the developers themselves, I'll explain why DMC5 is definitely on the way:

-Back in May, Capcom Japan released english translations of comments saying they want to wait no more than 2.5 years between sequels, starting with Lost Planet and Devil May Cry. This means, if Ninja Theory is on board, they'll be working on Devil May Cry for as long as they exist. This is completely improbably because Tameem Antoniades and other employees have said in their interviews they enjoy working on their own IPs and not working on the projects of others. DMC was just an "exception." This "exception" is unlikely to be the rest of their career as developers. I quote Tameem on this, "I believe working on a title for pure commercial success would be the end of you." After DmC, they'll go back to developing their own games as an independent studio.

-During a live Q&A chat last week. Dom Mathews of Ninja Theory was asked a bunch of questions regarding DmC and the franchise in general. When a fan asked about DmC getting a sequel along with other questions, he responded with "All questions for Capcom I'm afraid") If anyone is to decide whether to continue DmC, its Capcom. Capcom MIGHT continue DmC but either without them or return to them each 2.5 years AFTER the original DMC releases in the cycle. As I said before, NT isn't going to be working on releasing DmC every 2.5 years.

-During a recent Capcom Unity Stream of DMD mode for DmC, broadcaster Gregaman was attacked with anti DmC viewers. When confronted about how this game will take place of the original DMC, Gregaman went on to say "Or maybe this is just an alternate universe different from the original. It is a reboot. Kind of like Megaman." Whether you choose to believe this or not is totally up to you. It seems odd to reboot a series for more sales, abandon the original which is already making a lot of cash, and only run the new series on a developer with nearly no experience on AAA titles. Highly unlikely.

-Capcom recently said they're going to hire 1,000 new devs over the course of 10 years to "To further improve the quality of our games by maintaining an internal game development team.” Lately, they've been outsourcing a great deal of their titles and publishing the games. This makes the idea of DMC being outsourced to Platinum Games less than likely but also to Ninja Theory as well. If Capcom aims to work on their titles again, we could expect in house development on DMC but the quality is unknown at this point. The Japanese developer wouldn't continue a western styled game such as DmC however.

If you have anything to add, feel free. I'm Pro DMC & DmC so I have no quarrels with either games. This is just my insight on how DMC5 will still come to be through reading between the lines.

TL;DR Capcom has not given word on DmC being THE DMC or abandoning the original DMC because they want to keep focus on DmC selling. A DMC5 announcement or confirmation would brush this under the carpet. DmC is just a ploy to bring in more people to the franchise they couldn't reach before.

I also agree. This sounds completely logical. I've joked about it for a while...but now I seriously think Capcom has some form of marketing genius in the works..give them crap games and disappointment...watch sales plummet, then hype up everything the fans ever wanted. Infinite profit.

I'd laugh if they announced it, got everyone to buy DmC then at the press announcement, they jump on the table and grab their junk and shout "Here's your DMC 5 right here!" before lighting a cigar with a 100 dollar bill before walking out saying "Laters, losers.".

That is almost exactly what they do with every game series, with almost every release. People want (insert character here) in Street Fighter 4: Doesnt put character in SF4 and later releases an updated version with the character everyone wanted. Charges you 20 bucks each time.

But that updated version comes with a good balance patch and more than 1 character. Fair trade.
