That's not true. Names aside the story of Sparda and Eva is actually very different.

In the distant past a high ranked demon named Sparda rebels against his own kin for the sake of mankind. He defeats the demon king, seals the main gate for the demon world and for two thousands years he quietly protects the world. He becomes a legend. Then he marries Eva, a human woman, fathers the two twins Dante and Vergil and after a few years dies (how is never clarified). After his death his family is attacked by Mundus minions, Eva dies and the kids get separated, both believing the other to be dead.

20 years before or so a high ranked demon named Rocco falls in love with an angel called Moana. They have two beautiful children (two non identical twins), Nathalia and Superfly. But the demon king Ciccio learns of Rocco betrayal and kills Moana with his own hands while punishing Rocco to an eternity of torture. The kids meanwhile get separated, with one of them ending in an orphanage and getting plot induced amnesia.
Change a couple of extra details and the connection between the two would be even more non-existant.
Look, nobody is saying that the game exactly as it is now would work as a different IP without some changes but you are overestimating the changes needed to do so. Half of the stuff you mention (moves, tropes and the like) is very common in fictionland. BillysanPosted 1/2/2013 4:39:31 PM | If this was a new IP Ninja Theory would of kept more of the concepts they originally had which were apparent before fan outcry.
Actually the game would be completely different if fans and Capcom hadn't molded this game out to be something that is very different then if NT was just left alone.
Wither this is good or bad I don't know but I'm sure Capcom helped mold the combat into something playable.
Maybe if they just joined together with Capcom to make a new IP it be more accepted.

testament067Posted 1/2/2013 5:25:55 PM | It's fine as is to me. I liked the old series....but I can live with it being replaced. I wasn't feeling DMC4 as much as the others anyway....and definitely not DMC 2.
