how do they justify so few weapons?

It's pretty standars amount of weapons as far as DMCs go, but honestly i was expecting more. Weapons seemed rather plain at first but now i'm kinda liking them. I have yet to see that aquilla in action however, i'll save it for when i actually play the game. Don't want to spoil everything.

oh and vorgil also got his own weapons, so there's gonna be some variety

Lucifer deserves some credit. It's a weapon that has an obscene learning curve, but once you figure out how it works (If you can figure out how it works), you can combo everything into everything. It has obscene synergy with the rest of Dante's movelist.

This is true. I forgot about Lucifer. The two swords from DMC3--I forget their names--were also pretty cool.

IMO im satisfied with the weapon count after having to go through half of DMC4 with Nero's sword and a half plus a gun. not sure if the devil bringer counts towards the weapon count but even if it does, thats only like 3.5 weapons. (yamato only having like 2 moves in devil trigger only really counts as half a weapon for me)

i know dante made up for it with all his styles and numerous weapons but since im still forced to use nero for all of his levels, im still disappointed.

dont get me wrong i love DMC4 but thats just my one and only gripe with the game.

I like the weapons. Enryx is friggin stupid looking though. Speaking of that, I wonder what it and Aquilla look like in the other skins pack?

And yeah this TECHNICALLY has more weapons than DMC4. With both of the characters combined, DMC4 has more. But only one character at once DmC has more.

"This is a reboot" isn't a good excuse.

Though I can see why, from a design perspective, they chose simplicity. This is their first outing with the series. It's not that they're lazy (which is what most people will claim) their attention to detail in a fighting engine they've never developed before has shown this much. It's because they truly don't know what will stick and what will flop. Instead of showering this game full of weapon choices that completely change the style of game or simply taking the lazy route and copying the past Devil May Cry games they opted to focus on 3 melee styles and maybe a couple gun styles. This is possibly the safest direction, and although I respect risk takers in gaming, I prefer they stick to something simple for now.

If they continue this series and make a full trilogy and they still haven't implemented more weapons, THAT'S when we can all cry foul. Until then, enjoy the ride.

Okay, maybe I was being a bit harsh complaining about the amount of weapons. I just feel like something is missing with them though. I am especially disappointed in the gauntlets. It's like they didn't put any effort into their design whatsoever. And lack of dual swords is also disappointing.

According to Capcom, they were "Chosen because of Enslave's story, and Heavenly Sword's system, because it's similar".

It's not that they're lazy (which is what most people will claim) their attention to detail in a fighting engine they've never developed before has shown this much.

Wat.

First off, they are lazy. They flat out refused to work with DMC's real engine, because they refuse to upgrade from the UE3 engine. You don't take a baseball bat into a soccor game, and call it Tennis. (The thought humors me though.)

This also isn't their first outing in a Hack and Slash. Every seen Heavenly Sword? You know, the game that they outsourced other people to do for them? Yeah. That was their example of "Devil May Cry Action."

It's because they truly don't know what will stick and what will flop. They've only had TEN YEARS to get their act together. But hey, a few flops, and this being the first game they actually had to do themselves, without getting outside help, but lets give them a free pass. They're only giving one of the most iconic characters in gaming history.

If they continue this series and make a full trilogy and they still haven't implemented more weapons, THAT'S when we can all cry foul. Until then, enjoy the ride.

I got a better idea. Burn this game to the ground, and go back to the real DMC games. Capcom has already shown that they refuse to actually make games anymore. The last game they themselves made was Streetfighter vs Tekken. Everything else has been outsourced
So I'm sorry if I don't agree on "Enjoying the Ride". Gamers need to put their foot down and send a message back to Capcom, to stop being stupid, get their act together, and go back to being the most respected gaming giant around.

Seriously, I miss the days when the word "Capcom" was a seal of quality.

I don't know where you're getting 10 years from. You obviously aren't familiar with game development. DmC has not been in the public's hands for 10 years, we just got a working demo last November. They can have a hunch as to what people want and go off of a basic idea but the more factors you put in there the more of a chance it will fail. Three melee weapons is plenty to have an in-depth fighting engine. With every extra weapon implemented it runs the risk of either breaking balance or being unnecessary time in development, sounds to me like you're just asking for the game to fail.

Your mind is already made up about this game so I don't know why I'm even posting, but since there might be someone else out there who may take you seriously I feel the need to explain away your ignorance.

The best thing to happen to Devil May Cry since its debut is the act of outsourcing the development to a team that may actually care about Capcom's dying IPs. If you are against this move then you've already admitted to yourself Devil May Cry has been dead for years now.
