The "new" Dante has obviously garnered a wide variety of opinions since he was first announced. Personally, I didn't like him when he was first revealed, but I've come to accept him b/c you can still see parts of "original" Dante in this version.

However, new Vergil to me is just way too different. It's like they turned him into a "sissy" who can't fight anymore. When he was about to get crushed by Mundus and he cried out "Dante, do something"... it just made me wanna cry inside. He just comes across as a big weakling throughout the entire game. The final battle doesn't even compare to the first battle against him in DMC3. Even his Yamato has lost its awesomeness.

It was nice to see the fallout between the two at the end, but other than that... Vergil really doesn't resemble the original at all, especially his fighting abilities.

Hm, let's see here. This Vergil is meant to be capable of speaking dialogue. The other Vergil was just a "What if Dante was evil?" kind of thing. Nobody can defeat Dante but someone just as powerful right? Who looks just like him right?

Sup Ichigo vs Hollow Ichigo. Sup Sonic vs Shadow. Sup Inuyasha vs Sesshoumaru...

Now Vergil from the original is still a badass but he'd never do something like the new Vergil. That's what sets them apart, one has limits, the other one doesn't. I prefer the one who'd do anything to conquer and rule. If he doesn't look badass to you in the game as it stands what about in Vergil's Downfall?

To those of you who didn't see it.

Don't forget much more of his personality is fleshed out in the Vergil Chronicles, a prequel to DmC.

As for him looking like a "sissy". Rewind and think about everything he did in DmC. Vergil is a genius, that's already been established, and geniuses know their limits in whatever situation they are in. This incarnation of Vergil is beneath Dante's swordskills. That was repeated time and time again throughout the game to drill it into your head. It's not to make him look like a "sissy" it's to make him look less experienced than Dante. I believe with Vergil's Downfall being the continuation of his story after DmC, it shows how Vergil sharpens and hones his swordskills in order to take over the world. He really has no choice BUT to do that if he wants that kind of control.

So to me, he's much more sinister than the original. Oh and btw at the beginning of Showdown when their blades clash, look at Vergil's face before the two split apart. He forced Dante back with a single swing. If Vergil wanted, he could've killed Dante right there. But at the time, he was fighting to convince Dante, not kill. Which is why he says at the end and not during the fight "I loved you."

New Dante and Vergil > Old Dante and Vergil. They actually have character now.

Explain. Dante did have character in DMC3, 1, and 4.

Dante went from cocky ass who wanted revenge on demons who didn't give a crap about the world to cocky demon hunter willing to defend the world. He later accepted the demon Trish and forgave her and teamed up with her. He grows up to see past many villain tricks in DMC4 though he didn't expect someone like Nero. He offers cryptic advice like a mentor and even allows him to use Yamato, his own brother's sword.

He's a lot more at peace with his life by the end of DMC1 and DMC4. He even says things like Humans have something demons lack. DMC3 Dante would never say something like that early in the game.

Dante didn't have any sort of character. He was just an arrogant punk.

Excellent explanation. I really liked Vergil in this one. The other Verg just strikes me as a Sesshomaru knock off and is not quite that interesting, although still strong and cool enough to like superficially. This Vergil is more of a conflicted figure when it comes to his brother, wants to rule kindly, but looks like he'll eventually become a new Mundus, and undervalues humans in their ability. He's cold and calculating, but also a well-intentioned extremist. A level of depth that along with new Dante's ("I don't know who I am anymore"), was very much absent from the previous games and is something that should be more appreciated within the fanbase.
