Remember when Cracker Man made that comment about not needing sex to sell DmC?

Well, I really can't relate to you since I've never lived around people who think like that. When we were young we didn't have interest in girls, and having interest in girls after growing up never affected our taste in video games. I personally love to see things from the prospective of females, and playing as a female main character is not something that you get to do often, so me and my friends were thankful that Bayonetta was changing things a little bit.

Well, you're probably younger than me. Even if this is europe, idiots and kids are always the same. Mind you, when Bayonetta came out everyone I knew into gaming was more worried how it was compared to DMC than if the lead was male or female. Back in the last century there wasn't exactly a wealth of games like now, much less with female leads.

How did we go from DmC needing sex to sell to Bayonetta?

I find any comparison between the two to be an insult to Bayo.

TC was insinuating that Tameem is a hypocrite for saying that he will never make a game that sells on sex, and then putting a character like Kat in the game. I tried to explain that Kat is in no way sexualized, and DmC was never advertized using sexualized characters. Then I provided Bayonetta as an example of a game that tried to sell using sex. However a few people disagreed with the notion of Bayonetta being overly sexualized, and thus we ended up having a discussion about Bayonetta :)

According to Tameem, Kat with her low V and short shorts would qualify.

Having one side character being a little bit fanservicey doesn't make sex a selling point. Non of DmC trailers focused on Kat's look, and the game was never advertised as having a lot of sexual content...........unlike...you know......Bayonetta.

Dante and Kat are two of the three main characters. Both are clearly have elements about them that Tameem said that he wouldn't need to sell this game.

Using your logic, then all games that has main characters who look appealing is trying to sell using sexual appeal. Tameem never specified what would qualify as a sexualized character in his opinion, but he said that he would never use sexual appeal as a method to sell the game, and he made good on that promise. If you think that DmC can be compared to games like say Bayonetta or Lollipop Chainsaw in how it present it's characters.......then I guess we both have two very different definitions of the word sexualized.

I'm pretty sure Tameem made a point to criticize the women of the past games as sexualized. By that standard, I'd say having Kat in a shirt were her breast could fall out of any moment is trying to use sex to sell the product.

Except Kat's shirt is only showing some cleavage. I don't see how her breast could fall out out of that. I would say that your description fits Lady in DMC4 more.

Bayonetta always struck me as a game with a silly, sexy sense of humour and top-notch action all the way. Which it is. Posts like above would have you believe that the game is one big gyrating ass-shot for an hour or two. Which it isn't.

And since when did strong female characters have to adhere to the idea of not flaunting their sexuality to be considered strong and confident? Should Bayonetta have been in a pants suit and sat at a flying desk which attacked for her the whole game? You think she acts weak and lacks confidence as she maims, slaughters and brutalises angels and summons a demon-queen to punch out the Creator? Hey, go for it.
