why this game has more to do with GoW than with DMC. In DMCs, aside from DMC2 waves are rarely mattered. Mainly because of variety of moves by enemies and ability to move freely between stages. Usually enemy's count was low and didn't exceeded 5-6 pro wave. Most challenging enemies were threat on their own. In DmC it all depends on wave's layouts, like GoW. Basically none of the enemies are a threat on their own. They are easily beaten if not coupled with stronger/gimmick enemies.

Yeah, the red/blue a-holes appearing at the same time, mobs teaming up with the damn masked ninjas, or a combination of ALL THAT...

Don't forget lack of lock on, emphasis on AoE, one button launcher and lol cinematic experience.

Also note how they made the "m" in "DmC" lowercase so it resembles "GoW" more.

well, name bears less importance, but emphasis on wave combination certainly do.
