I'm sick of explaining DMC's story and characters to people who think that it was linear and lacked depth. And the combat didn't improve at all, this game doesn't even stack up to other HnS games and the standard of the genre; the clunky combat of DmC belongs to a 100 hour action adventure rpg.

Wow, if this is all it takes to get fans of a long-running series to kill it off, that's got to be why games like CoD are still selling strong. Change nothing, add a coat of paint every other year, maybe some $5 killstreak packs and the odd $15 map pack, and sell each game for full retail every year.

Seriously, gamers be some kind of fickle when it comes to preferring stagnation over change.

I've never even played DmC yet, but I'm willing to give it a fair shake despite the hate. I found old Dante (Aside from DMC3 Dante) to be rather unlikable and generic. Bangs over the eyes, platinum blonde/white hair, broody-looking face, long red coat, it just came off as trying to be too much like Vincent Valentine, one of the characters I went out of my way to never use in FF7 (even got me to stop playing it altogether with the whole broodiness thing).

What IS the major malfunction with DmC other than changing Dante's haircut and making him more down to earth and less Ultimate Plot-Armor One-Liner Spewing College Kid?

And of course the gameplay will be different, it's not meant to never change between games. DMC1 had good combat for the time, DMC2 was piss easy, DMC3 was hair-rippingly hard, and DMC4 had its moments all around. Too easy to get stylish points? Maybe, but not everyone introduced to new games released years after the previous entry will be veterans to the series. Breathing new life into the fanbase without alienating long-time fans is hard, and while NT/Capcom failed this time, it's more for the fans' inability to accept change than anything else.

From a purely business standpoint, I can see Capcom shelving DmC and trying to make something even more casual-oriented to replace it. Without a brand-name, they'll have to appeal to the lowest common denominator and work their way up, instead of being able to find a balance between pleasing you, and allowing new blood in without them getting put off by difficulty or other factors.

Nobody cares about change. It's change to the worse that people hate.

Goddamn delusional trolls.

the problem is, it's a lose/lose situation for us antis. support the game we hate, and old DMC might get killed off because the new DmC is more profitable. support the game for a chance that it might improve. don't support the game we hate and the old DMC might get killed off according to some people (don't understand their reasoning).
so why should we spend the money on a bad game we don't like just so the chance that a better game may be developed in the future? esp when the first DmC wasn't that good in the first place and any plot developing from that is highly likely to be at best mediocre.

Did I missing anything?

You forgot "Old DMCs were never that good anyway/the old games had bad writing/exploits" or just nostalgia goggles for short.

To those crying out "troll" if you don't want to hear it you can cover your eyes and go "lalalalala". I found this to be pretty well thought out, which is odd given the board this was posted in. (Ex. Wagon topics)

there are 2 kinds of changes: improve what already exists and add something to it or throw everything that was made away to make something completely different. Second kind is only acceptable in spin off or new ip. So if it will be dead of the franchise (which I highly doubt) it'll be only fault of Capcom or NT. You may thank Itsuno and Tameem for that.

I don't play it yet. But my main complain aside from look is a piss easy difficulty and boring enemies.
