I don't know, dubstep enthusiasts are extremely picky and elitist.

IMO they simply disqualify anything of poor quality from being dubstep.

They get away with this because nobody can tell the difference anyway.

Nobody has ever described dubstep in a simple and intuitive way to me.

This is a genre called death-step, it's even heavier.

Nope. Neither of them are. But they sound great. The instruments sound like a flute, synthesizers, basic kick, any snare, orchestral vocals and some hi-hats tossed in.

I didn't like the new DmC. It was mediocre.

Dubstep is a blend of music relating the the genres of Brit Garage, Jungle, Hip-hop, and various other electronic elements. The key component to dubstep is the wobble synth that createds an oscillated bass sound. However this is the least important part, as you have multiple ways to use it and implement it, especially in a halfstep tempo.

Of course there's harder and softer dubstep with various elements to it.
