Surprised no one mention any bald space marines. Though if there is one thing that is considered more "western," it's apparently a more "realistic, gritty" look. This is probably more from a marketing executive standpoint and we all know how completely right they can be.

Pretty sure "western" is short hand for "westerners won't call each other weaboos for liking it".
That's literally the only reason why terms like WRPG and JRPG exist and why there is such a dispute over them.
I feel those often come down to the fundamentals. Fallout 3 and Oblivion have little in common with Final Fantasy XIII and Shin Megami Tensei (Persona). JRPG's and WRPG's actually have identifiable gameplay differences.
This is more a question of design.
The problem with that is WRPG and JRPG really only denotes which region they are made from, which in the end doesn't really mean much because SMT plays much differently from Final Fantasy which plays very differently from Pokemon, just as Fallout 3 plays differently from Oblivion which plays differently from Mass Effect.
The W/J distinction has really done nothing but to cause the genre, which was already fragmented as it is due to its very nature, to become even moreso over the years, resulting in arguments that are the very example of narcissism over small differences. --- http://notebookstuck.tumblr.com/ http://i.imgur.com/8hEuE.jpg
